Today we’d like to introduce you to Brigid Shaw
Hi Brigid, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Orgullo Coffee was founded in 2022, while we were still living in NYC, after Marco and I, once casual coffee drinkers, discovered the unmatched quality of Honduran coffee.
When Marco’s mom came to visit us from Honduras, she would bring bags of Honduran coffee and we loved the quality and the smoothness. We have never had anything like it. The issue? Where can we find Honduran coffee in the US?
Frustrated by the lack of availability, we saw an opportunity to turn our passion into a business. Starting out as a side hustle and then leaving behind the corporate grind to go full-time last year, we combined our skills to bring Honduran coffee to a broader audience.
After relocating to Austin in late 2022, Orgullo Coffee has continued to grow, with us deeply involved in every aspect of the company. Meaning “pride” in Spanish, Orgullo reflects their commitment to sharing exceptional coffee with the world.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As a growing small business, every day brings new challenges and opportunities. One thing we’ve learned is that once people discover Orgullo Coffee, they love us and keep coming back! However, reaching new customers can be difficult when in a crowded space. We’re looking to spread the word about our storyto coffee lovers online through our social media and website.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We exclusively specialize in Honduran specialty coffee, carefully selecting, roasting, and packaging every batch ourselves—from our single origins to our signature blends.
Marco, a proud first-generation Honduran-American and former DACA recipient, has coffee in his roots—his great-grandfather was a coffee farmer, though he didn’t realize the connection until later. I’m (Brigid) a born-and-raised Brooklyn native with a deep love for coffee. With a background in sales and marketing, I finally found something I’m passionate about every day.
We’re all about “keeping coffee simple” – meaning you don’t need to be an expert or understand roast profiles or different tasting notes to enjoy a quality cup of coffee.
We want to highlight to consumers that you’re probably already enjoying Honduran coffee – you may not realize it. Major roasters in the US are buying it, but not telling you where the coffee is from. Honduras is the 3rd largest coffee producer in Latin America boasting a quality and flavor we all enjoy in our coffee. Our goal is to make Honduras synonymous with coffee and introduce it to everyday coffee drinkers.
We take pride in only sourcing the highest quality beans. As a result, we source from generational Honduran coffee farmers. These small farmers place high value on sustainability and produce exceptional coffee.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Brigid: I was lucky enough to have Brooklyn and New York City as my “playground” growing up. There was always something to do and learn — never bored! Being surrounded by diverse cultures, small businesses, and so many food and coffee options shaped my love for community and connection.
Marco: Was born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras and moved to the US at age 11. He lived in Florida and eventually settled in NYC for college where he met Brigid. Shaped by the selfless love and sacrifices of his mother, family has always been an important part of his life.
