Today we’d like to introduce you to Candace Nixon.
Hi Candace, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My career began in one of the least glamorous places imaginable, a cold-call sales center selling ads on websites that didn’t exist yet.
Every day meant 200+ calls, regularly getting yelled at by a stranger on the phone, and the constant pressure to sell $15,000 worth of ads each month or risk being fired. It was the kind of job that could drain anyone’s spirit; seeing someone cry in the bathroom at lunch wasn’t uncommon. But I made myself a promise: I’d stick it out for a full year.
When I finally hit that mark, I started applying for anything and everything. After that experience, every other job felt like a dream. Still, I wouldn’t trade that first role for anything. It was a masterclass in grit, persistence, and the simple truth that success in sales (and in life) is just a numbers game. If you keep going after enough “no’s,” eventually, you’ll get a “yes.”
From there, my path took me through some remarkable companies, from global corporations like Amazon to ambitious startups. In every role, I naturally gravitated toward the “builder” side of business, launching new initiatives, leading experimental programs, and turning ideas into real, revenue-generating operations. My colleagues started calling me the “Zero to One” person because I thrived on taking something from concept to execution.
I loved it. The learning, the problem-solving, the building all felt like second nature. But in my last role, after helping a small startup grow into a thriving company that acquired another to scale its operations, I hit a wall. I was mentally and physically exhausted from pouring so much energy into building someone else’s dream.
That’s when it clicked. Why am I not doing this for my dream?
I spent the next couple of months figuring out what that dream could look like. I knew I loved building things, solving problems, and helping others, and I wanted to make the world a better place. That’s how Wise Wolf came to life.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There’s a viral video I saw once that always makes me think about business. It’s of a football player who fumbles the ball in the end zone, somehow recovers it, twists and turns through tackles, and then, bit by bit, his teammates start building around him as blockers until he runs it all the way back for a 100-yard touchdown.
Building a business has felt a lot like that. It’s definitely not always a smooth road, and the struggles can be painful in the moment, but nothing great ever comes easy. My challenges have ranged from learning things the hard way, like navigating business finance, making hiring mistakes, or pushing through slow seasons. But once you start putting the right support and systems in place, something shifts. The momentum builds, things start to flow, and suddenly, you’re running toward the end zone.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Wise Wolf Consulting is a marketing agency dedicated to helping purpose-driven businesses thrive. We partner with mental health professionals and non-profits to strengthen their brand, boost online visibility, attract ideal clients, and scale their business without the overwhelm.
What truly sets Wise Wolf apart is that our mission is deeply personal to me. Through my own experiences, I’ve seen firsthand the difference that the right mental health support can make. I genuinely believe that many of the world’s problems could be solved if more people had access to the help they need. That belief drives everything I do, empowering the people who provide that support is how I can make the biggest impact.
I’m also proud of the honest, genuine partnerships we build with our clients. The name Wise Wolf carries a lot of meaning; it was inspired by my soul dog, who passed away shortly before I opened the business. Her dependability, compassion, and intuition embody everything this company stands for.
If you own a business that’s making the world a better place and want to reach more of your ideal clientele, I’d love to connect. And if Wise Wolf isn’t the right fit, we’ll help you find someone who is, because your work deserves to be seen.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I’ve learned that risk is a part of growth, but my first big leap taught me the most valuable lesson: avoiding risk is the greatest risk of all. When I look back, all the “big” risks I’ve taken have turned out to be the most rewarding experiences.
In my mid-20s, I quit my job, booked a one-way flight, and spent seven months traveling solo through 20 countries in Europe, Africa, and Asia. Along the way, I made some smart decisions and a few not-so-smart ones, but every choice led to something unforgettable. I met a couple at a hostel in Portugal, and a week later we were camping together in the Sahara Desert. Another time, I met someone while cliff-jumping in Croatia, and a few months later we were hiking in India and surfing in Sri Lanka. Those moments taught me that taking risks opens doors you didn’t even know existed. They happened because I said yes, even when I didn’t have all the details.
That experience really shaped how I see risk. Everything is a learning opportunity and you don’t have to have it all figured out to start. Risk isn’t something to fear; it’s where you grow and discover what you’re capable of.
