Today we’d like to introduce you to Carol Underwood.
Hi Carol, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
BellaKate was founded by Betsy and Carol, two friends connected through their husbands, who have been best friends since meeting at the University of Texas. When Carol was preparing to relocate from Colorado to Austin, the two began talking about their shared love of fashion and the idea of creating something together. What started as conversations between friends quickly turned into the vision for BellaKate—a boutique designed to help women feel confident, stylish, and ready for whatever the day brings.
The boutique is named after their daughters, Bella and Kate, who inspire the spirit behind the brand. Bella, a high school student and competitive mogul skier in Vail, Colorado, represents resilience, discipline, and a fearless approach to life. Kate, a recent graduate of the University of Texas now pursuing medical school, embodies dedication and ambition.
Together, their daughters inspire Betsy and Carol to curate pieces that celebrate women at every stage of life—whether they’re chasing dreams, building careers, or simply wanting to feel their best.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been a perfectly smooth road. There’s definitely been a learning curve, from buying and inventory to building the brand and growing our online presence.

Carol – Real Estate agent for 20 years in Winter Park, CO prior to moving to Austin.
Betsy – CFO for a Insurance Company. Relocated from Houston 4 years ago.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I think it’s really a combination of things—our partnership, our passion for what we’re doing, and listening to our customers. We trust each other and bring different strengths to BellaKate, and we genuinely love helping women find pieces that make them feel confident and excited to get dressed.
