Meet Cbas Mattar of Austin Texas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cbas Mattar

Hi Cbas, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Well I started my comedy journey a little over 7 years ago in Miami doing local open mics and showcases.

I spent about 4 years pursuing comedy there and now going on 3+ years doing comedy in Texas, primarily Austin.

Check out episode #621 on Kill Tony to hear a little more about me.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
To be completely transparent, it hasn’t been a smooth road on my journey. To be fair, I feel like that is the normal expectation once you embark on chasing your dreams. There aren’t a lot of “straight ahead” paths in the industry of comedy. There has been a lot of twist and turns, closed doors, unexpected opened ones.

Many times when I have thought the universe is going to hand me a blessing, 9/10 something I couldn’t have anticipated takes place. Whether that is a good thing or bad.

But through it all, smooth road or not, committing to my road and choices is the only thing I can control. If it was all smooth roads, everybody would be chasing their dreams.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in the art of public speaking, more specifically Stand up comedy. Often when strangers find this out about me, will say something to the degree of not being able to wrap their heads around standing in a room full of strangers trying to convince them your funny, night after night. And I think the opposite. I can not wrap my head around not doing that at all.

I’ve always felt the Universe/God has placed this dream in my soul and the only thing I can do is pursue it.

What separates me is my style. I’m unapologetically myself. My humor, jokes, abilities all stem from me and who I am. I don’t need to “put on a show” when all I’m doing is being myself. I love the ability to live life being who you are. There’s no other ingredient needed, God has provided me with all the tools I need. Its a true blessing.

What I’m most proud of is the fact that no matter how different the outcomes from comedy has been over the past 7+ years, I’ve never given up on what the universe has in store for me.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Shifts in social media, the use of twitch and VR technologies.

More and more we are moving into a digitally connected environment and the new waver which is already underway is VR comedy shows.

The more technology advances, the more this form of consuming comedy will grow. Think about not having the leave your house to sit front row at your fav comedians comedy show.

But regardless of what trends will be changing, the core of stand up comedy will never change. You, a mic, and your jokes. Thats all.
