Today we’d like to introduce you to Chad Worner.
Hi Chad, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Chad Worner is the co-owner and operator of Frontyard Brewing, a family-friendly brewery in the Texas Hill Country just outside of Austin. With a background in development, operations, and entrepreneurship, Chad has built his career around creating experiences that bring people together in meaningful ways.
Frontyard Brewing started with a simple idea: create a place where great beer and real life could coexist. Chad saw an opportunity to build something different from the typical brewery—a space where families felt just as welcome as craft beer enthusiasts. From the beginning, the vision was clear: open space, room for kids to play, quality food, and an environment where people could relax and stay awhile.
Like any entrepreneurial journey, the road to building Frontyard wasn’t linear. Chad navigated the complexities of launching and growing a hospitality business—from construction decisions and tenant relationships to scaling operations and expanding distribution into the greater Austin market. Along the way, he stayed focused on building something sustainable, not just successful.
Over time, Frontyard Brewing has grown into one of the most recognized breweries in the Austin area, earning multiple “Best Brewery” and Community Choice awards. Known for its welcoming atmosphere, strong community presence, and consistent quality, Frontyard has become a go-to destination for families, locals, and visitors alike.
For Chad, the journey has always been about more than beer. It’s about creating a place where people can connect, unwind, and build community—and continuing to evolve that vision as Frontyard grows.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Running Frontyard Brewing has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve built, but it’s also come with a level of complexity and pressure that most people don’t see. The margins in this industry are tight, and they’ve only gotten tighter with rising costs across ingredients, packaging, and food. At the same time, revenue isn’t consistent—there are strong seasons and slower ones, but the bills don’t slow down. Managing cash flow, making pricing decisions, and staying competitive in a crowded Austin market has required constant adjustment. On top of that, operating within a multi-tenant property has added another layer of challenge, especially when it comes to shared expenses and making sure we’re not carrying more than our fair share.
Beyond the numbers, the day-to-day reality is just as demanding. We’re not just running a brewery—we’re running a restaurant, an event space, and a family-friendly environment all at once. That means staffing, training, maintaining service quality, and creating a consistent experience every single day. Expanding into distribution brought its own challenges with thinner margins and the need to build strong retail relationships. And through all of it, there’s a constant stream of decisions—big and small—that never really turns off. It’s a lot to carry, but it’s also what’s shaped Frontyard into what it is today. The challenges have forced us to stay adaptable, focused, and committed to building something that lasts.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Chad and Amber have always shared a deep commitment to caring for others, both in their personal lives and through their work. Amber’s background as a pediatric psychotherapist and Chad’s heart for building meaningful, people-centered spaces naturally aligned in a way that shaped everything Frontyard would become. From the beginning, their approach has been simple: give what you can, when you can, and trust that showing up for people matters. Whether that’s creating a place where families can relax, supporting a neighbor going through a hard time, or hosting events that bring people together, their shared focus has always been on meeting real needs in real moments.
Frontyard Brewing has become a natural extension of that calling. It’s more than just a business—it’s a space where they’ve been able to love on the community in tangible ways. From opening their doors for gatherings and celebrations to supporting local causes and creating an environment where people feel seen and welcomed, Frontyard has become a hub for connection. Over time, it’s been incredible to watch how something that started as a vision has grown into a place where relationships are built, burdens are shared, and people leave feeling just a little more cared for than when they arrived.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Chad grew up in a small town where he loved being around people, spending time outdoors, and building connections that felt genuine and lasting. That sense of community shaped a lot of who he is today. While he went to college, it never quite clicked the way it does for some. Sitting in classrooms and learning in a traditional way didn’t feel natural to him, and it became clear over time that his strengths were somewhere else.
After college, Chad realized he was a hands-on learner and a doer—someone who learns best by being in the middle of the work, solving problems in real time. He’s naturally focused and linear in his thinking, always working toward a goal and figuring out the most practical way to get there. At the same time, he’s always had a strong desire to care for others, to lift people up, and to see the best in them even when they don’t see it themselves. He enjoys being outdoors, working with his hands, and tackling challenges head-on, which has carried through into both his personal life and the way he approaches business.
