Hi Chana, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into professional creativity commenced in early 2021 with the launch of my initial podcast, Channeling Chana. Through candid discussions of my anecdotes and unfiltered rants, Channeling Chana served as my canvas for self-expression.
Building on the success of Channeling Chana, the following year saw the inception of UNHINGEDASF—a platform designed to amplify the voices of fellow creatives. Collaborating with DAWA, a local nonprofit organization, we transformed UNHINGEDASF into a thriving space where artists and creatives found a stage to share their stories and perspectives. To this day, UNHINGEDASF remains a beacon for local talent, actively booking and spotlighting artists from our community.
As my journey unfolded, I was drawn to the curator & creative director role dedicated to fostering authentic expression within the Austin creative scene.
From humble beginnings with nothing more than a microphone, my MacBook, and a mission to create spaces for authenticity, the journey has been nothing short of transformative.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Every day feels like a bit of a wrestling match. Juggling mental health struggles alongside running a business can get messy. But you know what? I made a pact with myself a while back—I wouldn’t let that stuff hold me back from doing something great and leaving a mark on my community. Getting diagnosed with bipolar depression when I was just 13, well, that hit hard. It made me realize early on that my emotional rollercoaster wasn’t like everyone else’s. I’ve spent a lot of time figuring out why it’s harder to bounce back when feeling down, wildly when I’m usually cheering others on. And those times when I’m buzzing with energy, feeling like I’m going a mile a minute? It’s like I can’t hit the brakes. But you know what? I’ve learned to roll with the punches. Each bump in the road adds another layer to my story. It’s not always smooth sailing, but it’s real. And I’m all about being authentic. Every stumble, every victory—it’s shaping me into someone who’s not just determined but also understanding. I’m in this for the long haul, armed with resilience, self-awareness, and a lot of heart.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
Well, you’re looking at a bona fide creative director here! With over a decade of wrangling teams and managing projects, I’ve honed my skills to become the organized powerhouse you see today. I’m hustling as a content creator by day, but I’ve got my sights set on something bigger—a kickass creative agency estimated to launch by year’s end. But you know what makes me beam with pride? It’s my resilience. I didn’t strictly come from a trust fund or a picture-perfect family background. Nope, I’m more like the rebel in the family album—the one who sees the world differently and isn’t afraid to speak up or break the mold. I’ve had my fair share of hurdles, but I refuse to let them define me. I’ve learned from past generations’ missteps and paved my path, one bold move at a time. Now, I’m not here to toot my own horn or anything, but if there’s one thing I admire most about myself, it’s my go-getter attitude. When I want something, you better believe I’m going after it with all guns blazing! Perfect? Far from it. But determined? Absolutely. And hey, a little wit and charm never hurt anyone along the way, right?
Who else deserves credit for your story?
Oh, where do I even begin? My journey wouldn’t be half as colorful—or successful—without the incredible squad of cheerleaders and mentors who’ve had my back every step. First up, there’s Kris, my rock and life partner. His unconditional love and unwavering belief in me have been like a beacon in the storm, guiding me through even the most challenging times. And then there’s Noemi, my partner-in-crime since day one. Through thick and thin, she’s been there with a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on, and more laughter than I can count! We’ve weathered storms together, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Of course, I can’t forget my big sister, Olivia, who’s mentored me. Her wisdom and guidance have been like gold, helping me navigate the twists and turns of life and business with grace and grit. But you know what? It’s not just about these individuals—the entire tribe of supporters and allies who’ve stood by my side, believing in me even when I struggled to believe in myself. Their love, encouragement, and belief in my potential have been the fuel that’s kept me going, even when the road got tough.
