Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlie Moore.
Hi Charlie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I definitely had an early interest in photography. When I was in middle school, I remember entering a photo of a waterfall I took in our local county fair and winning Reserve Champion for my photo. That was my earliest dip into photography. Little did I know that years later photography would be a big reason I am still here today. I know it sounds cheesy and cliche but photography saved my life. I was in a recovery center for my eating disorder when I picked up the camera again. I began with just random shots of our dogs and wildlife and then quickly jumped into the big-life events – weddings, engagements, couples, etc… I am very much a learn-by-doing person and did just that – jumped off at the deep end and booked all the things. I absolutely LOVE capturing candids moments of the special day and looking at the whole picture. Yes, I love a good pose and perfect lighting but I strive to capture the emotions of the subject so that the emotions come rushing back when they are looking back at the photos. Today, I’m shooting numerous events and love to take care of my couples whether that be holding a bag, being your hype guy, or just grabbing you a drink helping you relax.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly, the beginning was very up and down. The statement, “You’re your own worst critic,” is painfully true. I would go out and photograph an event and be on top of the world but the second I uploaded them and opened up Lightroom I froze. I would pick myself apart and second guess my exposure, the temp, should I highlight a shadow… EVERYTHING. I would get everything exactly how I wanted, sleep on it, and start over. It took me a good year or so to develop and I identify my style. However, now that I’m here and know my style and my worth, I’m so glad I stuck it out through all the adversity. Now, do I have it all figured out? Not in the slightest. What I do have is a drive to learn and continue to develop this skill.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My style goes beyond preset and poses. I am here for the emotions, all the feels, and the mushy gushy moments. Like I said before, I want to capture the client’s emotions in a photo that they can look back at it feel them all over again. I am a “super feeler” and I can feel the emotions and tone of any room almost instantly. I use this to my advantage especially at weddings and keep an eye out for those intimate moments throughout the night with all of the guests. Those unexpected moments always make the most emotional and raw photos that always leave the biggest impact.
What matters most to you? Why?
All in all, I want my clients to LOVE their photos. I want them to love their photos while I stay true to my style and trust myself and ability. They are trusting me to capture their biggest moments with their favorite people and I want to show them that I understand the weight of this assignment. I go above and beyond with small touches of kindness and care where I can to show my appreciation to them.
