Today we’d like to introduce you to Cierra Moore.
Hi Cierra, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m always the person who says, “I can make that!” As I started reading the labeling on a lot of tea brands, I realized that most brands, even the “healthier” and more expensive ones, included artificial and/or natural flavoring.
So after spending so much time and energy investing into other brands, I decided to take that leap in April 2020. I knew I wanted to develop something that was not only delicious but beneficial to the body. As a natural creative, I’m always aiming to produce things that make others feel good. Basic Ass Tea does just that! It’s made from real ingredients.
I’ve also been fortunate enough to be a member of Future Front Texas (formally Boss Babes ATX) this year. They’ve really helped with Basic Ass Tea’s exposure to Austin.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road, lol. I started my business after quitting my job at the beginning of the pandemic. The moment I made the decision to pursue my business, I didn’t imagine the entire world would soon be on lockdown.
Although, it did allow me to actually focus and devote the time and energy. My excuse prior to had always been that I didn’t have those two things.
Also, there have been several changes to the packaging. I look back at the first few orders I sent out and can only laugh at how awful they looked. I can say I love how it looks now though!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
People really seem to love the name of the brand and the individual blends. That’s usually the first thing people will comment. Once they start to read the ingredients, the correlation begins to click for them.
For instance, Lay Low includes lavender and lemongrass, which are known to be natural sedatives for the body. Definitely relaxing!
It also wants that difficult coming up with the recipes. I enjoy cooking and can recognize that when paired just right, just a hint of turmeric can make a huge difference.
Basic Ass Tea does not include artificial ingredients or dyes. We use freeze dried fruit in each of our blends because it maintains its natural flavor.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Yes, shipping can be an issue when sending and receiving packages. Initially, I was shipping orders to customers in Austin, but it was taking an additional four days to travel less than 20 miles. So I now offer a drop off options for locals.
