Meet Cody Kinsfather of East Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cody Kinsfather.

Hi Cody, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
From an early age, I was deeply drawn to the arts, with charcoal and pencil serving as my primary mediums throughout high school. That creative foundation evolved dramatically when, at 18, I received my first DSLR camera—and instantly fell in love with photography. Entirely self-taught, I began by photographing family, friends, and pets, quickly developing a distinct visual style through imaginative and highly conceptual shoots.

My work soon caught the attention of publications and modeling agencies, and by 2011, I was shooting professionally for top modeling agencies in Dallas, Texas. Over the next two years, I focused on refining my portfolio and establishing a strong brand identity. In 2013, I relocated to New York City to immerse myself in the global fashion industry and gain access to elite models, designers, and networks.

By 2014, increasing demand for my work led me to split my time between New York, Los Angeles, Austin, and Miami. As my career expanded, so did my reach—working with celebrities, luxury fashion designers, and global brands, I traveled extensively for shoots in destinations including Japan, Iceland, Indonesia, Mexico City, and Brazil.

In 2019, I launched Kinsfather Studios, a modern, light-filled creative space on East 3rd Street in Austin, Texas. The following year, I was honored to be sponsored by Fujifilm, a global leader in imaging technology. Since then, I’ve led international workshops, photowalks, and seminars for the brand.

In 2024, I added videography to my creative toolkit—continuing to evolve and push the boundaries of my artistic vision.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Breaking into any industry is challenging—but entering a creative field presents its own unique set of obstacles, where success is often dictated by subjective taste and ever-shifting trends. In the early years of my career, I poured every spare moment into honing my craft—often working late into the night, absorbing every piece of insight I could from industry leaders. It was a constant balancing act: striving to meet professional standards and win over critics, while fiercely protecting and evolving my own artistic vision.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At my core, I am a visual storyteller, with photography and videography serving as my primary creative outlets. My work is recognized for its clean, modern, and minimalist aesthetic—an approach that allows form, emotion, and detail to take center stage.

Throughout my career, I’ve collaborated with leading fashion and commercial brands, building a portfolio that bridges both artistic expression and market appeal. While my résumé spans a wide range of clients, I’m especially known for my exploration of the male form—creating striking, refined imagery that elevates the physique into fine art. Whether shooting for swimwear and underwear campaigns or producing gallery-worthy prints, my work seeks to challenge, celebrate, and redefine masculinity through a contemporary lens.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is that the present moment holds the greatest power—because tomorrow is never promised. Embracing that mindset has fueled my creative risks, inspired bold decisions, and reminded me to approach each opportunity with urgency and intention.
