Meet Colton Barden of South Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Colton Barden

Hi Colton, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began making videos as a kid to document family trips and completely fell in love with telling stories of my adventures with those around me. Outdoors and travel became a huge focus for me, and media became an avenue for that. Whether film jobs such as weddings and corporate work supported it financially, or I was out in the backcountry with my camera, it always came back to a pursuit of the next outdoor adventure. Now I’m graduated from Texas A&M as of May 2024 and living in Austin with the hopes of furthering my production company “Hozho Productions LLC”. I currently work on a variety of projects including outdoor commercial work, short films documentaries, and even on set of other local commercial endeavors.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not haha. Have I been abundantly blessed and supported along the way though? Absolutely. There has been no shortage of mishaps and setbacks along this road, but I’m thankful for them nonetheless. Most important have been the people that surrounded me throughout the years reminding me why I press on and continue to pursue my dreams. I’ve endured 2 leg surgeries, losses in clients, poor business decisions, and straight up burnout along the way. All of these have taught me a better approach for the next time, and that the most valuable characteristic is persistence.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m entranced by nature and I strive to capture it in the best way possible. This has always driven me to work harder for the shot, invest in better gear, and keep stretching for the next thing. Along with these pursuits I also love telling the stories of individuals in nature. Their relationship with the outdoors is fascinating to me, and I think it’s worth telling to others in an honorable light.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
I would encourage them to try more of their ideas. Do more of the things that you think about doing rather than just ruminating about them. Easier said than done. Beyond that, don’t be afraid to work with and for others. I often isolated myself because I thought that it was more efficient or effective, but in reality sometimes I removed myself from valuable collaboration and growth.
