Meet Dominic Carrera of Hutto

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominic Carrera.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started cutting hair in 2005. Doing edge-ups on myself with a straight razor only and that got the attention of my friends who’s started asking to fix their hairlines up too. That ended up turning into $2 edge-ups until I could save up for a pair of trimmers that turned into $5 edge-ups. Then saved up for a pair of clippers so I could actually do haircuts. Through trial and error I got better – – enrolled into barber school in Corpus Christi Texas in 2007 – – joined the Air Force in 2009-2015 got out and enrolled into Paul Mitchell the school Dallas 2015. Work at Johnny Rodriguez the Salon 2015-2018- – moved to Austin and started at Fraga Barbershop 2018-2022 – – started at Kings Barber Studio 2022-2023- – moved to Las Vegas and started work at LXVE Studios (a lot of info here)- – moved back to Austin (hutto)

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth road. Financial problems, career changes, flexibility, closures

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a Barber, I specialize in shear haircuts. Sounds corny but I’m most proud of my overall career starting from a broken down bathroom to cutting hair in a Billionaires office barbershop. What sets me apart from others is hospitality

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Jose Sosa- Hospitality/ Business
Eric Lewis- The meaning of being a barber
Johnny Rodriguez- structure/ professionalism
Josh O.P.- doing things with purpose
Kiké Mendez- marketing/ advertisement
