

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dor Korngold.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I come from a family of creators; My father always had a small workshop, my mother always designed things, and my grandfather was an electrical engineer. So I learned a lot from each of them, and when I built my first bike, I never envisioned I would be where I am today.
Ten years ago, I was working at an electric bike shop in Israel. I had access to an old electric bike that had a super cool frame that I loved! So I took some old parts I had and put everything together. It was at that very moment that everything clicked. My boss at the time had an idea to create our brand in the U.S. My initial thought was no way, not possible, will never happen!
However, my boss helped push me into the mind-frame that it is possible, and if you love what you do and put in the work, you can do it! I knew about designing and building electric bikes, but I needed to learn so much more to succeed.
After searching the market for the perfect electric bike, I realized it simply didn’t exist. I needed the “Swiss Army Knife” of electric bikes: one that balanced design, versatility, and comfort and could still handle an active lifestyle. So in my backyard garage, I started to build a rider-focused collection of electric bikes that could transform the way we move, giving freedom back to riders everywhere. Fast forward a decade, and our boutique design house operates with passionate people that have made it their mission to build easy-to-use, quality bikes with timeless designs that offer performance without compromising on comfort or utility.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think with any new business opportunities; you will find bumps in the road. Some of the challenges I have faced along the way where;
- Learning how to build a successful brand in the States and overcoming language barriers.
- Juggling the obstacles the pandemic brought our way. The pandemic forced us to change the whole way we had to operate. First, we had to build and create a virtual platform to conduct interactions with our customers. Our goal was to make the same in-store experience a customer would have, but now virtually.
- Finally, it was very challenging to revamp our manufacturing capabilities due to higher consumer demand and the time when there were mass shortages and delays in global production and the shipping industry.
We’ve been impressed with MOD BIKES, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What should we know? Our focus at MOD BIKES is to change how people move. We are seeing more and more people giving up their cars and using electric bikes as the primary means of transportation. Ultimately, we want to help people, and I think that’s what changes everything.
Our designs are from the past but built for the future. We’re bringing together old-school values and future visions for right-now mobility. When designing our bikes, we considered every type of rider. We have bikes for the everyday commuter, weekend warriors (off-roading), elderly populations, and parents carrying kids/pets.
What do you do, what do you specialize in / what are you known for?
We design bikes with the right balance that combines comfort, utility, performance, and multi-terrain capabilities. Our team is full of passionate people who make it their mission to build easy-to-use, quality bikes with timeless designs that offer performance without compromising comfort or utility. That combined with unparalleled customer service, our electric bikes let you go above and beyond and enjoy your journey just as much as the destination.
What sets you apart from others?
The unique design of our bikes. There are not many brands that have some of the unique features or designs that we have. I.e., Bikes with sidecars, bikes that fold, and simplicity. With our bikes, you can rest assured you are getting the biggest bang for your buck.
What are you most proud of brand-wise?
Our customer community. AKA MOD Squad. We strive to provide superior customer service and honestly believe our customers speak for our brand. Having happy customers around the globe supporting us and “being our face” means everything to us.
What do you want our readers to know about your brand, offerings, services, etc?
We love to be their starting point with electric bikes. We are about educating individuals on making more intelligent decisions when purchasing their first bike and ensuring the bike will align with their needs. Our 1:1 Virtual demos are about finding the perfect fit for each individual.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
This stems down to our customers! We love when we see a big smile and 8K miles on a customer’s odometer after a few months of their purchase. This is what we are here for, and this is why “Be The Face” means so much to us.
