Meet Eduardo Arteaga

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eduardo Arteaga.

Hi Eduardo, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Mexico, and I am the eldest son of three siblings. My parents were both schoolteachers. My mother was an elementary school teacher, while my father was a middle school English teacher.

Although my parents did not make a lot of money, my siblings and I were provided with the best my parents were able to afford.

From the onset, the educational bar was set high for my siblings and me. In retrospect, which was the best thing that happened to us.

After I finished high school, my plans were to attend college in a large city in Mexico. The thought of studying in the United States never crossed my mind. I did not even have a passport, neither the means to travel nor the funds for college tuition.

Some people would call it luck, fate, or destiny, but all of this would drastically and rapidly change.

One remarkably close friend of my father lived in San Antonio, Texas and managed a couple of large car dealerships. One day, as I was getting my things ready to leave for college, he came to visit us in Mexico.

He sat down with my father, my mother and I, and told us how much he appreciated our family. He then proceeded to ask my parents if they would allow me to attend college in the US and live in his house as a family member. That was the offer that changed my life forever.

The bureaucratic process that followed was overwhelming. I needed to obtain a Mexican passport to get a tourist visa to be able to travel to the US. After that, I needed to apply and to get accepted into a university before I could get a student visa from the American consulate in Mexico. The chances of all that happening were unimaginable, but somehow, they did.

During my college years, I met someone who eventually became my first wife and mother of my two children.

I raised a family, eventually got divorced and remarried.

After a successful career in information technology, I developed a passion for travel and photography.

The photography equipment I use, as well as my photography skills have been in a constant evolution process. I consider myself an eternal apprentice.

I began to combine my technical skills with digital photography to produce high-quality creative images. On my leisure time, I enjoy photographing an array of subjects in locations around the world and in my hometown in North Texas.

Recently, I have selected what I consider my best images and uploaded them to a digital gallery.

The gallery is at https://www.pictorem.com/profile/Eduardo.Arteaga

The purpose of this effort is to share my vision of the world through these images and to make them available to anyone who may like them as much as I do.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not everything has been smooth, however, it has been a challenging yet rewarding experience. At the beginning of my photography journey, I did not have the adequate equipment, nor the skills.

I had more determination than anything else. Often, the end results were not what I expected to see.

As the adage goes “practice makes perfect”, that became my reality and to this day keep practicing and experimenting.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My career in software engineering has provided me with ample technical skills.

I began to combine my technical skills with digital photography to produce high-quality, landscape images. During my recent travels, I have been able to capture iconic images of world heritage sites, people, etc.

There are so many amazing things in this world to capture in images.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I tend to study the images that others have created and challenge myself to produce comparable or better results. I realize that every person has his or her unique perspective. Embracing diversity is always positive. Accepting suggestions and constructive criticism always improves the result.
