Today we’d like to introduce you to Hampton Young.
Hi Hampton , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started at the very bottom as a 15-year-old boy earning $12 an hour, carrying bundles of shingles up a ladder. Twenty years later, after gaining extensive knowledge about roofing and construction, I became a project manager for a large roofing company. One afternoon, while discussing products with a client, he said, “You know everything about roofing and how things work; I insist you start your own company.” Though I was reluctant to run a business, the client’s persistence convinced me. I was too proud to admit I was living paycheck to paycheck, but I had ambition. With nothing but that drive, I began knocking on doors—inspecting roofs, talking to entire city blocks. If a roof was broken, I repaired it; if it needed replacement, I replaced it. Eventually, I realized I had built a profitable business using every gift God had given me. I had never been happier—money was no longer an issue. More importantly, I cared about providing clients with a personable experience that led to referrals. Over time, everything fell into place and only improved, as my true passion is helping people, performing acts of kindness, and giving back to my community and the state of Texas I love. I’ve never put myself above others; I stay humble, listen carefully, and help anyone in need, regardless of our company’s size. I always remind myself of the boy I once was—carrying shingles up roofs for $12 an hour. The lessons I learned throughout my career are: stay humble, offer a great customer experience, never boast or speak ill of competitors, listen more than you talk, give back to the community, and always, always be fair. That’s how I’ve succeeded. This is the short version there were many ups and downs but I stayed in motion because what’s in motion stays in motion so never stop moving forward.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Ohh many struggles starting a company without a penny to my name took everything I had. There were times where I just wanted to pull my hair out and quit because it was so overwhelming trying to please everyone but through it all I learned how to manage it and almost make it look easy.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a local roofer but not like most that only focus on money and big jobs I’ll take the small jobs and help as many people as I can and that has led to many doors opening for great opportunitys.
Any big plans?
I’m very excited to kick off Lago Vista Roofing and watch it grow. I’d like to become a philanthropist. I’m enjoying working on starting new companies in other fields.
