Meet Ian Walter of IanWalterMedia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ian Walter

Hi Ian, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Hi, I’m Ian Walter (he/him), the brains behind IanWalterMedia. I started loving photography from the young age of 12. My dad was just dabbling in the hobby of photography, but I was drawn to the camera every time it came out. Eventually, he purchased a camera kit on the Facebook marketplace for me to practice with, and the rest is history! I took a few photography classes in high school and quickly realized photography is what I wanted to do. With a background in marketing and photography, I decided to do things differently and help businesses grow to unseen heights. I’ve dedicated myself to learning how to market online effectively and efficiently to make your end product look just as good online as it does in the flesh. From navigating Bozeman, Montana’s beautiful mountains after high school to photographing my mom’s non-profit fundraisers/events, my journey has shaped me into the creative-minded and innovative thinker I am today. When I’m not immersed in the digital world creating, you can find me with friends and family or, more frequently, with my 3 precious little fur-balls. From the age of 1 I grew up in the capital of creativity, Austin Texas. From phenomenal food to amazing live music everywhere. I was nurtured to create and imagine. I’m excited to grow together, create, and share your stories to authentically connect with your audience. Let’s turn challenges into opportunities, celebrate milestones, and create a success story that reflects our shared dedication to innovation and a lasting impact in the world. Let’s connect and explore the possibilities together!

If you would like any more specific information, please don’t hesitate to reach out!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No. Owning your own business is HARD. Let alone building this business as a 20-year-old, lots of people definitely look at me as less capable just because of my age. However, word of mouth and quality of my work has slowly started to turn that stereotype around as people are coming to me instead of me searching for jobs! Starting out I had no idea where to begin, From the costs of upgrading my gear to a professional point, building my website, creating my socials, the legal side of the business, Marketing, and so much more.

Being a business owner is hard. You are playing all the parts. For me I am Networking – Salesperson – Marketing – Editing – and Photographer. There is more but that is just an idea of the responsibilities you will have, and honestly… Every single one of those parts are just as important as the next. Without one of them, you won’t see the growth.

I quit my full-time management position at Kerbey Lane Cafe to pursue my dreams. Kerbey made it easier to pay my bills; however, it just wasn’t cutting it. I left last year and have been doing photography full-time since then.

I can’t even begin to express the amount of reaching out I have already gone through, and there is so so so much more. Most the times you don’t hear back. It’s demoralizing when what you want more than anything is just to make your dream come true. However, every once in a while, you find someone who understands the value of photography and what it can do for them or their businesses. THOSE are what keep me doing this. I love finding like-minded individuals and I love creating something for those people are more than happy with.

If you could see me 3 years ago… You would be shocked. Owning a business makes you think differently, it makes you want to learn, want to grown, and want to share. Learn, Grow, Share. Will take you to where you wanna be. It takes time. At the beginning, I was pushing so hard to try and get it off the ground to the point it would fully support me, but I quickly realized I needed to know A LOT more people. We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
My favorite childhood memory was when my mom told the family we were going on a road trip… The whole family packed suitcases and were ready but had no idea where we were going. We got in the car super early in the AM, and I just did my thing, waiting till we went somewhere. 15 hours later, I woke up to my mom asking me what was out the window… I looked up and saw one of the Disney World hotels!!! It was our first time there, and it genuinely didn’t feel real. Thank you, mom 🙂
