Today we’d like to introduce you to Isaac Soto.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started working with Joe Contreras, Owner of Latin Action Records located in Austin, TX. in 2008 as Mr. I K E, under a group named 512 Mafia. We worked on a few records that never got released due to legal troubles Joe was facing and some personal shit I was going through, right after Joe went away in 2010 the label pretty much dissolved.
I was still with Latin Action doing shows within Austin and the surrounding areas in 2012 when I caught the attention of Hubert Jones Jr., Owner of Against The Odds Records located out of Houston, Texas.
Between being on the road, working on my debut in 2013, meeting my wife and have my first child, to thinking about calling it in December 2014 after the initial release of “Mister I Know Everything” under Latin Action Records/Against The Odds Records. I parted ways with Latin Action Records in July 2015 after the Texas Heat Wave show, ultimately calling it later that year.
2016 I reunited with a project I worked on with my brothers Fabian and Xavier Soto when I was a teenager. A Farewell To Nothing, repacked after the reunion tour in 2017 as a four-piece with the addition of Byron Portillo on drums. Releasing “Screaming in Silence” in 2019 under Against The Odds Records. During the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, it was hard to get together with the band due to all the closures also with health concerns for each other, we decided to take a hiatus until we can get everything done the right way.
Later in 2020, I decided to start recording as I K Ǝ, after getting back to it with late nights in the studio, making time for my wife and kids and having a 9-5. I finally released my first single in April 2021 after a six years hiatus. ‘Win or Lose’ available on all streaming platforms (https://push.fm/fl/edpgzv6b), also I will be heading out on a small Texas tour in November 2021 so catch me in a city near you.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I left Latin Action Records in 2015 after seven years when conversation I had with Joe went south over royalties and publishing. I haven’t seen or heard from him in six years, and this is family, I mean, anytime leading up to my departure I would SCREAM Latin Action Records, every event, in each city, interviews and to think the only one holding it down for the label gets looked as the outsider of the group all over royalties.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Whether it’s rap, metal or any genre for that matter, I’m a musician, I make GREAT music, it’s not that I’m cocky or anything, I just believe in what I do. I’m here for the long run.
What does success mean to you?
God, Family, health and happiness. After you personally find this, success and all its amenities come in due time. I really do believe this. Hearing my kids screaming Daddy as I come home from working all day, being able to tell my wife ‘I Love You’. It’s the small things that matter the most that make me feel in my mind successful.
That and album/single sales, lol.
