Today we’d like to introduce you to Jana.
Hi Jana, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Our journey to starting Lucky Hollow Organics has really been a story of learning, growth, and following a calling that kept getting stronger with time. My husband Daniel and I, come from the golf course side of agriculture. We have always had a passion for growing, and had the vision for Lucky Hollow Organics long before we were introduced to Lone Star Lettuce Growers. After 8 years on the turf management scene, I was ready for a change of pace and took a job as a greenhouse hand for Lone Star in February of 2024. I have always had a passion for plants, and to have the opportunity to learn how to sustainably grow food was a dream job.
Lone Star Lettuce Growers was founded by Kyle Massey. He owned and operated this place since 2020 and really built a name for the brand he poured so much of his time over. What started as a hands off position quickly changed when the manager, he had working for him at the time, left suddenly. I had previous conversations with Kyle about what my future looked like with Lone Star and that I was ultimately there to learn in hopes of starting my own greenhouse one day. What a better chance to learn than to get thrown right in?! For the next year, I served as the Manager of Operations and Head Grower. That experience was incredibly formative for me. Getting to be directly involved in the ups and downs of organic farming, really taught me how much harder it is to run a true sustainable organic farm!
I began running our social media outlets on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. Bringing clips of what the life of a farmer was like to the public was received with so much encouragement and love. What started as small snippets of our harvests, turned into weekly informational LIVE sessions and the interest in our little farm caught fire. We began seeing in influx of tours, that is still increasing today.
During that time, something started to take root in my heart. I realized that growing food wasn’t just a job for me—it was something I felt deeply connected to. I loved being part of the process that takes something as small as a seed and turns it into nourishment for families in our community. That’s when our company Lucky Hollow Organics began to take shape. We knew we wanted to do something to stoke the fire and bring attention back to the organic farming scene. The goal was to start our own greenhouse out on our homestead property in Burnet, TX. However, our plans and vision for Lucky Hollow Organics quickly took on a new shape. In November of 2024, Mr. Massey approached us and had decided he was ready to retire from farming. The discussion of purchasing Lone Star Lettuce Growers was something that you couldn’t have even begun to put on my radar. But the universe has a way of putting you right where you need to be…and I had indeed been set in a place where I knew that this was my calling.
After a year of preparation and negotiations, in August of 2025, Lucky Hollow Organics became the new owners and parent company of Lone Star Lettuce Growers. What started as a small greenhouse dream, has blossomed into a company with a whole new mission… SAVE THE FARMS! After purchasing Lone Star, we saw just how much of a crisis the farming industry is in. Family farms are struggling to make ends meet, new regulations and taxes make certain tasks almost impossible, and they aren’t getting passed down generationally like they used to. This leads most farms, no matter how well established or loved, threatened with the shadow of closing their doors. We knew then and there that we needed to do something to keep farms open, brands alive, and our communities fed with food that was grown with heart and sustainability.
By moving with integrity and truly showing people our hearts, we now get the privilege to help keep farming alive! We have big plans for 2026, with more farm acquisitions that are bringing familiar brands and new produce choices you already love to the Lucky Hollow Organics family! We are so thankful to everyone we have had the privilege of working with. You guys all play just as big of a role in this mission as we are. Thank you for trusting us to continue to serve you, we can’t wait to show you guys what’s next!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, heck, its still not entirely smooth! This is our first time owning a business and running a farm. So there is definitely a learning curve when it comes to all of the behind the scenes work that it takes to make sure everything flows on a daily basis. With indoor farming, we are grateful for the opportunity to grow produce year-round! However, we aren’t completely exempt from the seasons. The winter still slows down our production, but we always end up making it work somehow. We are a small farm, and sometimes being able to keep up with demand is a balancing act. Its hard to actively be working towards expanding our farm and still not having enough lettuce to fill orders. Its a blessing of a problem to have, if that makes sense. What a blessing it is to be tired from work that you have asked for!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Lone Star Lettuce Growers?
At Lucky Hollow Organics, our first greenhouse operation is Lone Star Lettuce Growers. Located right outside of Georgetown, TX off of FM 972 sits a 12,000 sqft. facility that houses 15 different lettuce varieties in a deep water culture system. Our hydroponic lettuce is grown year-round and serves our local communities and beyond!
We currently work with a non-profit called Sunday Lunchbox that supplies local Austin families with fresh meals and produce all year. Kristen and her team are amazing to work with, and we are so proud to be a part of their mission to truly love and feed people! We also teamed up with The Common Market, who distributes our lettuce to school districts across Houston and Dallas. Our lettuce is also available in retail at Magpie Mercantile in Bertram, Tx and Juice on The Corner in Llano, Tx.
What makes us different? We sell our lettuce as “living”, which means you get lettuce that comes with the roots attached. This allows us to send you home with lettuce that can out last any other head that has ever made its way into your fridge. By adding a little bit of water to the bottom of your bag to keep the roots damp, you can enjoy your farm fresh lettuce straight from your crisper drawer for up to TWO WEEKS! We are proud to offer the freshest lettuce that comes straight from our farm to your fridge! Come find us at a farmer’s market and test it out for yourself!
Saturdays:
Texas Farmer’s Market @ Bell in Cedar Park from 9 AM – 1 PM
Tuesdays:

What does success mean to you?
Success, to me, isn’t measured only by profit or growth. It’s about building a life that reflects the values my family and I care deeply about. With Lucky Hollow Organics, success means growing clean, organic food that truly nourishes our community. I want the food we produce to help families eat healthier and feel connected to where their food comes from. Knowing that what we grow supports the well-being of our neighbors and friends is one of the most meaningful outcomes I could hope for.
Success also means caring for the land in a responsible and sustainable way. The soil, the water, and the ecosystem around us are gifts that deserve stewardship. I believe that farming should improve the land rather than deplete it, and I want Lucky Hollow to be a place where the environment is respected and protected so that it can continue to provide for generations to come.
At the heart of everything is my family. My husband Daniel, our son Hayden, and all of the support we have from our extended families on both sides! The life we are all building together is the driving force behind this dream. Success means creating a life where our family can work together, grow together, and build something lasting. It’s about creating memories, sharing hard work, and knowing that the farm represents our commitment to each other and to the life we’re cultivating.
Ultimately, success for me is living with purpose—continuing to pursue our dream even when the journey is challenging. Lucky Hollow Organics represents hope, perseverance, and joy in the work we do. If we can build a farm that feeds our community, cares for the land, and reflects the values we live by, then to me, that is true success. And in that spirit, we always try to remember to live life…Happy Grow Lucky.
