Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Andrew. They and their team shared their story with us below:
The idea for Trybe started in early 2014 to provide yoga for the community that wanted space they could call home, a place that would be cozy, intimate, and inviting for all. In May 2015, Trybe Yoga officially opened for business after a 4-month buildout of a space they were supposed to sublet in Cedar Park that ended up (fortunately) not working out after an emotional whirlwind of building out a space that we inevitably had to leave due to the original tenants having issues with getting city permits to open for business. It was a smooth transition compared to what we endured before the Leander space. We found the location, got the keys, laid floors, painted the entire space, decorated, and had all our city permits within 4 days of touring the space! Over the years, we built an amazing community that has often shared that their lives have changed because of Trybe.
In 2020 we decided to expand the space and add a private gym space, mainly for my powerlifting endeavors. 2 months later, we would get word the whole world would be locking down. We weathered the global pandemic by offering virtual sessions, but yoga in our sweet space would never be the same as it was becoming more clear each month. If it weren’t for adding the gym side to our now-called Trybe Wellness and Performance Center, we would have had to close down. Having a private gym where we focused specifically on working with one client at a time, we could keep working and helping out clients, where big box gyms weren’t appealing to most.
In August 2022, we decided to move the yoga portion of the business to the most beautiful and amazing Flying K Ranch, owned by one of our very first clients and now dear friend, Dr. Kathryn Kotrla. It’s like a mini retreat within the week just 10 minutes away from our original home.
About Jen: the Trybe Yoga and Trybe Wellness and Performance Center owner. Jen Andrew is a dedicated teacher, coach, mentor, and friend. Born in Alabama, Jen moved to Texas at the age of 12. At that age, Jen worked her first job at a local paper company, where she rolled newspapers, thus exemplifying an (early-on) eagerness to learn and work. Over the years, Jen has worked in different capacities, from sales and marketing to retail, caretaking, and personal training. Jen also has a BFA in Sculpture and Watercolor from Texas State University in San Marcos.
For Jen, the fitness and health industry is among her most essential passions and has been her professional industry for over 16 years. She is also a certified yoga instructor, personal trainer, and Westside Barbell Personal Training and Athletic Coaching Certified. She predominantly works with all fitness levels and ages of individuals looking to get stronger while maintaining vitality and wellness.
When Jen isn’t teaching or coaching, you will find her with her family of 6, Mark, Zimmer, Karys, Kamryn, and Zev, or at the gym training for her next powerlifting competition, training others to be their best, or volunteering with the Leander Wolfpack! She currently holds 10 World Records and 22 State Records. She holds the All-Time Drug Tested World Records across 3 weight classes with a 501lb, 507lb, and 512lb squat and the Sub-Masters World Records for Squat, Bench Press, Deadlift, and Total. Jen continues to fulfill her dream of creating a welcoming, sacred space to come as you are and do your best.
Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Now Trybe Wellness Center is a newly remodeled 2,200 sqft as of Jan 2023. Our primary focus is to provide a space that creates community. With the assistance of our expertise, our community thrives by consistently building the best version of themselves. With each visit, we do this best by empowering a healthier, stronger, and more body-aware individual. The results equate to optimal performances in all areas of our lives. Our private facility specializes in personal training, sports-specific coaching, nutrition + lifestyle coaching, bodywork with Mark Rogers, and yoga at the ranch. We are also the training facility for Leander’s very own minor league football team, The Leander Wolfpack.
What’s next?
Since we just renovated and expanded the space, we are excited to start bringing in more people, athletes, and small groups for their specific needs.
