Meet Jeremy Devens of Quietmind Astrology & Quietmind Yoga

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Devens.

Hi Jeremy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2008, I was struggling with depression and heard yoga and meditation might be helpful. I was looking for direction in my life and the best things I found were meditation and a weekly astrology podcast. I kept putting off trying yoga but eventually, I went to a class. I tried my first yoga class at a gym and loved it. I decided to start going every day. After a few days, the teacher said she was moving away so after class, I asked her if she had any way of offering online classes or even just recordings of her live classes because I wanted to keep learning yoga. She said she would try something like that but that was the last I heard from her. I wound up finding other teachers I liked and eventually taking a yoga teacher training, but that desire for some sort of online classes from teachers I liked always stuck with me. Years later, after many more trainings and years of experience teaching, I started my first podcast; the Quietmind Yoga podcast, which features audio recordings of live classes.

Along the way, I learned that one of my teachers was also a Vedic Astrologer and began studying this with him. I learned that it is actually based on astronomy, unlike Western Astrology and learned there are many overlaps, as Vedic Astrology comes from the same source teachings as Yoga. I had gotten consistent with my yoga podcast and realized there were no weekly Vedic Astrology podcasts so I created one. The Quietmind Astrology podcast is where I share weekly horoscopes and insights to apply Vedic Astrology to our lives. These are the resources I wished existed back when I was struggling with depression and finding my direction. I’m incredibly honored that now I get great feedback every week from listeners around the world.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Most of my struggles came earlier in life. I never met my father, and I grew up in poverty. Since getting into Yoga and Vedic Astrology, I have been fortunate to find great mentors to help me along the way, and that is why I offer mentoring to others in Yoga and Vedic Astrology now. One of my biggest challenges came with the pandemic in 2020, as most of my work was in person, but I was able to quickly adapt as I had been hoping to move online for a while anyway. Just three weeks after lockdowns, I lead my first online yoga class and have been teaching weekly since on my site www.Quietmind.Yoga

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I had been into Western Astrology since childhood, and that is what most of us in the US think of when we hear the word astrology. It’s often dismissed as pseudoscience, and everyone in the world is lumped into just 12 signs. Once I realized that Western Astrology uses 2000 years old calculations, I couldn’t follow it anymore. When they say the Sun is in Leo, you can look with a telescope or an app like Night Sky and see that it is actually 23 degrees back because of the precession of the equinoxes. This is something that is calculated in Vedic Astrology, meaning it is accurate with modern astronomy and current calculations. Also, the Sun Sign is far less significant in Vedic, as there are millions of variables that make up a chart. I believe we are all here for a unique purpose and the birth chart gives incredible insight into what that purpose is. When I got my first Vedic reading, my astrologer was able to see things such as growing up without a father and deeper parts of my personality that I was blown away he could see. It gave me tremendous clarity, insight and validation of what to focus on in my life and helped tremendously. I offer readings and training in Vedic Astrology now to help give back and share insights and clarity with others. This is what I offer in my Quietmind Astrology business.

In my Quietmind Yoga business, I help people build strength, flexibility and balance with practices personalized to address their needs for that day. I love to take complex ideas and teach them in simple and practical ways, such as the anatomy of the poses, the energetics and the meditative aspects of the practice.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I have definitely taken some big risks, such as moving to Austin ten years ago without having ever visited. I trusted my intuition and I’m so glad I did. I think it’s important to be intentional, have a plan, and be willing to go beyond what is comfortable or familiar. I have found the phrase “leap and the net will appear” to be true countless times in my personal growth, my business and all areas of life.
