Today we’d like to introduce you to Jocelyne Vo.
Hi Jocelyne, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born and raised in Paris, France, and moved to the States 3 years ago to live with my husband. We chose to move to Austin because it is a great city for tech opportunities, and the people here are craving wellness and holistic approaches to health and lifestyle. The charm of this city is undeniable: beautiful nature between hills and lakes, amazing food scenes rooted in barbecue tradition and innovative fusion cuisine, and the culture where music, vintage shops, and thrifting markets give Austin its laid-back charm. After graduating in 2016 as a chiropractor and practicing for 3 years in my hometown, I realized that my chiropractic approach was mixing scientific knowledge I acquired in school and energetic/holistic integration that I discovered while helping patients. The mind and the body are intertwined, and when it comes to pain/tension/discomfort, I have to consider the 3 T’s aspects of chiropractic: Thoughts (Emotional), Toxins (Chemical), and Trauma (Physical).
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I had to take and pass the National Board of Chiropractic Exams here in the US, which is divided into 5 different parts, covering the entire curriculum of chiropractic school. After moving to Texas, I had to go back to school to fulfill the state requirements to get my chiropractic license. My chiropractic credentials still need to fully transfer from France, even though I passed the National Board of Chiropractic Exams. Thanks to COVID, I could go to school online, which I did for over 1.5 years, and obtained a Bachelor of Science with a major in Anatomy. Although it was challenging to work and be a full-time student, I was able to open my practice during the summer of 2022.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I had the option of opening my practice as a solo practitioner. My vision was to create a wellness hub for patients to enjoy the bliss of holistic treatments/services and spend a moment with us to enjoy the peace of self-care. Still, although I’m fiercely independent and self-driven, I enjoy being able to share my vision with other-minded practitioners. I value mindful collaboration as it’s the best way to help someone: having a broader vision while keeping the patient’s best interest at heart. I value taking the time to address my patient’s needs and concerns; every visit is different and tailored with various techniques: adjustments, massage guns, SOT blocs, acupressure, energetic approach, and somatic integration. Continuing education is really important to me because it’s endless and helps me be a better practitioner. By continuously challenging myself to learn more, I can add more value to my skillset and provide alternatives to my treatments.
What do you think about happiness?
I’m an adventurer at heart, and I love giving myself new challenges. Making sure that the ones around me are cared for and valued means the world to me, and I always strive to improve every aspect of my life.
