Meet Josimar Rodrigues of Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josimar Rodrigues

Hi Josimar , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m Josimar Rodrigues, a Venezuelan passionate about food, creativity, and social media. I earned a degree in advertising and emigrated to the United States nine years ago, initially settling in New Jersey. I worked in the hospitality industry as a server in restaurants and wedding clubs in New York City, where I developed my love for food and the business of hospitality.

Cooking has always been one of my favorite hobbies, so I created an Instagram profile called Josisfood to share recipes and explore my culinary creativity. After living in New York for four years, my husband, Maynard Arias, and I decided to move to Austin, Texas, in search of new opportunities and a better quality of life.

From Hobby to Passion
What started as a simple hobby has now become our main mission. As foodies, our goal is to explore and showcase Austin’s hidden culinary gems, from food trucks to restaurants and local businesses. We understand how challenging it is to start and grow a business, which is why we dedicate our free time to supporting and highlighting local talent.

A Creative Team
My full-time job is working as a community manager and videographer, helping culinary businesses stand out with creative content and digital strategies. My husband, Maynard Arias, is also an advertising professional with extensive experience as a bartender and mixologist, having worked in Dubai and New York. Currently, his full-time job is as an editor and content creator for Josisfood, in addition to working in the tech industry at TikTok. Together, we’ve built a team focused on producing high-quality reels, photography, and digital content.

Mission and Vision
Our mission is to continue exploring and showcasing the best of Austin, promoting the city’s vibrant food scene, and helping our clients achieve their goals through innovative strategies and content that highlights their passion and dedication.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road hasn’t always been smooth, but every challenge has been an opportunity to learn and grow. One of the biggest hurdles was adjusting to life in a new country. Moving from Venezuela to the United States was a big leap, both culturally and professionally. It took time to adapt to the fast-paced environment of New York City, and starting from scratch in a new country was tough. But my love for food and hospitality kept me going.

Another challenge was transitioning from my work in the restaurant industry to creating content on social media. I had to learn not only the technical side of videography and photography but also how to engage an audience and turn my hobby into a business. It wasn’t an easy shift, but my background in advertising helped me build a creative strategy.

The move to Austin came with its own set of challenges as well. We had to start over again in a new city, build a new network, and find our place in a competitive food scene. Despite these struggles, we saw it as a chance to support the local community and help small businesses thrive.

Overall, every obstacle has made our journey more rewarding, and we’re proud of how far we’ve come.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As an artist and creative, I specialize in crafting visually engaging digital content, specifically in the food and hospitality industry. Through my Instagram profile, Josisfood, I’ve been able to blend my passion for food with my background in advertising to create dynamic content that tells a story. Whether it’s through high-quality photography, reels, or videos, my goal is always to showcase the beauty and creativity behind each dish and the people who make it possible.

What sets me apart is my ability to connect the culinary world with creative digital strategies. I don’t just capture food; I capture the essence of the experience in an organic, authentic way. I work with local restaurants, food trucks, and businesses to develop content that not only attracts customers but builds a genuine connection with the community. My expertise as a community manager and videographer allows me to take a hands-on approach in helping businesses establish their brand and communicate their story visually.

I’m most proud of how Josisfood has grown from a simple hobby into a platform that supports local businesses and fosters a love for food in the community. The feedback we receive from small business owners, knowing that our content has helped them grow, is incredibly fulfilling. What really sets us apart is our deep commitment to authenticity and the way we highlight the passion behind each brand in a natural and organic manner. We don’t just want to show what’s on the menu – we want to tell the story of the people and culture that make it special.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is authenticity and connection. In both my personal and professional life, I strive to stay true to who I am and to build genuine relationships with the people around me. Whether it’s through my work in the food industry or my interactions with clients and the community, I believe that meaningful connections are at the heart of everything.

I’m passionate about supporting local businesses and showcasing their stories in an authentic way. I truly believe that the success of any business isn’t just about the product—it’s about the people behind it and the culture they create. When we work with local restaurants and food trucks, our focus is always on highlighting their passion, dedication, and hard work in an honest, organic way.

On a personal level, what matters most to me is creating a positive impact. My husband and I moved to Austin with the goal of finding a better quality of life, and we want to share that same sense of opportunity and support with others. Helping local businesses grow and thrive, fostering community, and staying true to our values of creativity and authenticity are what drive me every day.
