Meet Kaitlyn Bonzo of Goddess Gatherings Apothecary

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlyn Bonzo.

Hi Kaitlyn, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Goddess Gatherings originally started as a way to practice self-care. I would read the cards and use it as a way to get some sense of purpose during a really heavy place in my life. The readings were generally uplifting and gave me a direction when I was directionless, so I just kept doing it.

When I wasn’t reading my own cards, I was reading for friends and reading strangers at bars. It was fun reading for others and seeing their reactions to the accuracy. Eventually, someone suggested that I start selling my readings and I said okay, sure!

I started my business in Dallas, which is a great city but isn’t exactly known for being spiritually in touch. Going to markets was incredibly disheartening as a lot of people were nervous or uncomfortable around tarot. Coming to Austin has been such a breath of fresh air and I’m so happy to have the community that I have. Doing spiritual work brings me more satisfaction than I thought possible and drives me to learn more so I can help heal my community.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It’s definitely been a bumpy road. Tarot is a mix of memorization and intuition. You have to trust your gut and build a relationship with your inner self in order to give accurate readings. It’s personal, so everyone does it differently and there’s no dry cut road. I’ve had to learn to be more self-confident in order to be successful and accurately inform my clients. Confidence is definitely something I’ve struggled with in the past, but having an external motivation has helped push me forward to work on healing that wound.

We’ve been impressed with Goddess Gatherings Apothecary, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Goddess Gatherings also has ritual items! I make ritual oils and baths to help strengthen my client’s spell work. My current favorite is Freyjas Fortune Ritual Oil. It’s a good luck oil dedicated to the Norse goddess of Magick, Love and War.

I love working with baby witches or people who have never had their cards read. It makes me feel so proud to facilitate something that is often seen as intimidating or spooky. I want to be able to hold space for them while they experience something new and potentially overwhelming.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love how much nature there is in Austin! There are so many trails and parks to explore. My border collie is very happy living here.

My only complaint is this city is obsessed with IPAs. I love a good IPA but I need more than two options at every bar. I’m a stout kind of person and I miss my old go-tos.
