Meet Kalea Renee Ballard of South Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kalea Renee Ballard.

Hi Kalea Renee, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I found my calling to do hair when I was 12 years old experimenting in my bathroom. My mom painted a bright blonde piece in the front of my hair. I felt so cool. From there I was hooked. By the time I was a senior in high school I was highlight my friends hair and chemistry of hair color. I entered beauty school right out of highs school followed by years of apprenticeships under numerous salon owners. I learned so much from working under these experienced stylist and am incredibly grateful. In 2013 at the age of 25 I stepped out into my own and opened Kalour Studios in South Austin. But that’s not where my education journey ends. I’m a student for life and will forever continue to grown and master my skills and craft to best serve my clients and the greater Texas Hill Country.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My biggest struggle has been with work life balance. When the time came to start my family I had to make some changes and that didn’t come easy. I am a passionate person and when I decide to do something I throw my whole heart into it so learning to set boundaries and stick to those boundaries has been a challenge.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Over the past few years I have set out to master a new skill set within my field and I’m so proud to now be offering hair extension services to my clients. Not just any ole sewn in wefts but the most gentle seamless, comfortable and most importantly scalp conscious. Each row is applied with the utmost care on no two rows are the same because no two scalps are the same. I’m excited to continue my education journey into the world of hair extensions and hair loss solutions.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My mentor is an amazing women I met early in my career she shaped me into the education hungry person I am today and taught me every I know about the business of hair. Her name is Barb Garcia the owner of Square Salon and Atelier in Las Vegas. I don’t know where I would be if it wasn’t for her.
