Meet Kayla Davis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Davis.

Kayla Davis

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
My photography journey began in high school and college, where I started by taking senior pictures. Over the first few years, it evolved into anything couple or love-related-engagements, proposals, boudoir, weddings, and rehearsal dinners, for example. Just before the pandemic hit, I became an intern for a local jewelry designer, which sparked my interest in product, fashion, and events photography. In a short span of time, I transitioned from an intern to an in-house photographer, and by 2022, I had taken the plunge into freelance work. Today, because I took that initial risk, I’ve been fortunate enough to work in LA, New York, and Paris.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has never been smooth, and if someone says it is they are either rich, delusional or lying. There have been countless and unimaginable challenges, but I’ve learned to pause in the present and focus on the positives, otherwise, the negatives can consume you. It’s easy to be overwhelmed by the failures that inevitably arise when you’re running your own business. However, there’s a certain peace in knowing we’re not alone and everyone faces their own struggles.

I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a photographer, I specialize in on-location, outdoor, and studio photoshoots for fashion, products, and events. Over the years, I have developed an exceptional knowledge of photographic styles, equipment, and techniques. I am most known for my inventiveness in using the provided space and proficiency in posing and styling while collaborating with any person, place, or thing. My style is eclectic, honest, and based on movement. I don’t want to take pictures; I want to make pure art. Currently looking to work with more East Coast and international clients!

What do you think about happiness?
Most people would assume it’s being a photographer, but at the end of the day, it is not. While creativity brings me immense joy, it is not the defining source. True happiness comes from a tiny vintage cup or a perfectly shaped spoon. Experiencing new things, spending intimate moments with my small circle, and romanticizing my life sparks authenticity within me. Happiness is simple; you have to slow down and pay attention. It surrounds us all the time, you just have to look. Whether that be in the way the rain sounds in a silent house or the healing vibration of riding a horse bareback. For years, I searched for happiness through my career and the benefits or social status it provided, but it always left me drained and unfulfilled. Now, life’s little quirks make me happy because they allow me to create art in such a genuine way.
