Hi Kelsey , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi! My name is Kelsey Crawford! I honestly didn’t know about permanent makeup until I came across a girl on social media that offered the services in San Antonio. I was obsessed with all of her work! I followed her page for quite some time and then I finally reached out to the artist in 2019 and she tattooed my eyebrows! I cried tears of joy after having my eyebrows done! I wanted to know more about permanent makeup but Covid hit in 2020 so that changed things for me. Once things started opening back up, I reached out to the artist and inquired about training to become a PMU artist. I’ve always been a perfectionist with artistic abilities so I knew for sure that I would thrive in the PMU world! I took the beginner’s microblading course and ended up taking the machine shading course shortly after that. Knowing how to do both techniques is very important because you can offer more services! I started offering permanent makeup services later in 2020 after getting my tattoo license. I have been in the business for almost three years, and I couldn’t imagine doing anything else! I offer permanent makeup services for eyebrows, lips, and eyeliner. PMU has changed my life and opened doors that I never imagined. When I hit a rough patch, I just tell myself “keep moving forward”. My business has helped me grow as a person and has shown me that hard work pays off in the end! I am so thankful for the support from family, friends, and my amazing clients! Without them, this would not be possible! I am forever grateful to everyone who has played a role in my success!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For the most part! I remember feeling nervous when I first started offering PMU services. I was very slow in the beginning from start to finish but as time went on I learned what worked best for me and was able to form my own technique and got much faster! Time and perseverance have played a major role in my success! I’m also a part of an online continuing education group so I’m always sharpening my axe. There is always something new to learn in PMU.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Licensed Permanent Makeup Artist or Cosmetic Tattoo Artist. My services include microblading, powder/ombré brows, combination/hybrid brows, lip blushing, and eyeliner. Brows are my most popular service! I’m proud that I was able to make my dream job a reality! What sets me apart from others is being able to work with mature skin. Mature skin is a lot trickier than youthful skin so being able to work on it and have great healed results says a lot about me as an artist. If you can successfully work on mature skin then you can work on any client that comes through the door.
