Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Lasseter.
Hi Kristin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Ever since taking a course in reproductive endocrinology in college, I’ve had a special interest in the role of women’s hormones in mental and physical health. Going into medical school, I thought I wanted to specialize in obstetrics and gynecology, but my clinical rotation in psychiatry fascinated me and I decided to pursue that instead. I learned of reproductive psychiatry while interviewing for residency training, and it felt like the perfect fit for me. Since there was no reproductive psychiatry private practice in central Texas, I decided to start one and help increase access and awareness to women’s mental health care. This has been my mission ever since.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. I have no formal education in business or leadership, so this part of owning a medical practice has been a huge learning curve for me.
As you know, we’re big fans of Reproductive Psychiatry and Counseling. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Reproductive Psychiatry and Counseling (RPC) is a women-owned and physician-owned private practice in Texas. We specialize in treatment of mental health issues that occur during times of reproductive hormone changes in a woman’s life. This includes, premenstrual mood and anxiety disorders, infertility, perinatal mental health, and perimenopause. There is no other private practice reproductive psychiatry group in Texas, and we pride ourselves on expanding care for women’s mental health across the state. We are proud to have such a dedicated and passionate team of mental health care clinicians who consistently provide evidence-based and high-quality care. We also focus on providing education through social media and presentations.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
It is so important to have a good work/life balance when providing excellent mental health care. We encourage all of our clinicians to take good care of themselves so they can provide the best care to their patients.
