Today we’d like to introduce you to Larry Choyce.
Hi Larry, I’m so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I developed a passion for photography at a young age. I was growing up in Austin. I was exposed to the city’s vibrant culture and diverse communities, which inspired her to capture the world around me through a camera lens, with a keen eye for detail and a love for storytelling. My photography reflects my deep connection to the people and places I encounter.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
From a young age, pursuing photography in Austin’s vibrant culture involved overcoming various challenges:
- Mastering technical skills
- Developing a unique creative vision
- Handling financial constraints
- Building a diverse portfolio
- Networking for exposure
- Dealing with criticism
- Balancing art with commerce
- Managing time effectively
Each struggle was a step in the journey, enriching my connection to the people and places I captured through my lens.
Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
In my photography, I specialize in portraiture that captures the essence and stories of individuals. My work is known for its deep tonality and the ability to convey the nuances of personality and mood through the lens. I am most proud of my ability to create a connection between the subject and the viewer, crafting images that speak to the diversity and richness of human experience. What sets my work apart is the attention to detail and the collaborative process I engage in with every subject. In every frame, I strive to go beyond mere aesthetics to tell an intimate and universal story. This commitment to storytelling through portraiture distinguishes my work from others.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up within a military household, my early years were characterized by structure, discipline, and adaptability. Moving from place to place, I learned resilience and the art of connecting with diverse people.
