Today we’d like to introduce you to LaTashia Mitchell.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey started with a deep love for natural hair and a desire to help women feel confident in their authentic beauty. As a natural hair stylist with over 16 years of hands-on experience, I saw firsthand how many people struggled to find products and services that truly supported healthy, textured hair. That’s what inspired me to create Something Natural Hair a brand built on intention, education, and results.
I began by serving clients in the salon, listening to their needs, and developing solutions that actually worked for curly and natural hair. Over time, that passion grew into a full product line designed to nourish curls, support scalp health, and simplify hair care routines with healthy, effective formulas.
Today, Something Natural Hair is more than a salon or product brand it’s a community. My mission is to empower women, especially those with curly and natural textures, to embrace their hair with confidence and knowledge. Alongside building my haircare brand, I’ve expanded into real estate, continuing my purpose of helping people feel confident not only in their beauty, but in the spaces they call home.
Every step of my journey has been rooted in service, creativity, and community and I’m just getting started.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all and honestly, that’s what shaped me the most.
There were moments when I questioned everything. Building Something Natural Hair didn’t come with a roadmap. I had to figure out product development, branding, marketing, and finances while still showing up for my clients every day. There were times when sales were slow, resources were limited, and I felt like I was carrying the vision alone.
One of the hardest struggles was learning to believe in my vision before anyone else did. When you’re building something from scratch especially as a woman in business it’s easy to feel overlooked, underestimated, or unsure if you’re doing enough. I also had to unlearn the idea that I had to do everything perfectly or by myself. Asking for help, trusting my instincts, and staying consistent were lessons I learned the hard way.
There were personal challenges too balancing family, business, and self-care. Some days I felt exhausted, but I kept going because I knew my purpose was bigger than the obstacles.
Looking back, every challenge pushed me to grow not just as an entrepreneur, but as a woman. The struggles taught me resilience, patience, and faith in my journey. And today, I’m grateful for those difficult moments, because they built the foundation of who I am and what Something Natural Hair stands for.
As you know, we’re big fans of Something Natural Hair. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Something Natural Hair is more than a haircare brand it’s a mission, a community, and a movement rooted in confidence, culture, and care.
At its core, we specialize in healthy, effective solutions for natural and curly hair. We create thoughtfully formulated products and salon experiences designed to nourish curls, support scalp health, and simplify hair routines for textured hair. Our work bridges education, beauty, and wellness because we believe healthy hair starts with knowledge, consistency, and self-love.
What we do goes beyond styling.
We serve clients in the salon, develop healthy haircare products, and educate our community on how to truly understand and care for their hair. From moisturizers and curl definers to treatment oils and shampoos, every product is created with intention to solve real problems like dryness, breakage, frizz, and scalp issues.
What sets us apart is our philosophy.
We don’t follow trends we focus on results. We listen to real women, real curls, and real needs. Our formulas are designed for textured hair first, not as an afterthought. We combine professional expertise, healthy ingredients, and cultural understanding to create products that actually work. And we don’t just sell products we teach women how to use them in a way that fits their lifestyle.
Brand-wise, what I’m most proud of is the trust we’ve built.
Women don’t just buy our products they return because they see transformation. They feel seen in our brand. They feel confident in their hair. That connection is everything to me. I’m proud that Something Natural Hair has grown from a small vision into a brand that represents authenticity, empowerment, and community.
What I want readers to know is this:
Something Natural Hair is for every woman who has ever felt confused, frustrated, or disconnected from her hair. We’re here to make curly and natural hair feel simple, beautiful, and celebrated. Whether you’re visiting our salon, using our products, or learning from our content, our goal is the same to help you fall in love with your natural hair again.
And we’re just getting started.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The quality that has mattered most in my success is resilience.
There were many moments when quitting would have been easier than continuing. Building Something Natural Hair required me to stay committed even when results were slow, resources were limited, or the vision felt bigger than my circumstances. Resilience taught me how to keep going, how to adapt, and how to believe in my purpose even when no one else could see it yet.
But beyond resilience, I’ve learned the importance of listening to my clients, my community, and my intuition. That’s what allowed me to create products and services that truly serve real needs, not just trends.
I think success isn’t just about talent or strategy it’s about staying grounded in your “why.” My why has always been helping women feel confident in their natural beauty and empowered in their journeys. That purpose is what keeps me consistent, creative, and courageous.
If I had to sum it up, I’d say resilience paired with purpose is what has carried me forward and continues to shape everything I build.
