Meet Laura Gouge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Gouge.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up being told I was technically healthy, but I felt unwell nearly every day for over 20 years. From age 8 to 28, I suffered with all sorts of symptoms including anxiety, insomnia, fatigue, frequent infections, bloating, overeating, nausea, and difficulty focusing.

I went to over a dozen conventional doctors, and each one told me the same thing–that my labs were normal, and I was healthy. Sometimes they offered me medication to suppress the symptom I was having, none of which worked or helped me much.

After feeling exhausted of the medical system and tired of feeling unwell, I took things into my own hands and started to experiment on myself. I tried everything from drastic diet overhauls to homeopathy to shamanic healing sessions, a lot of which helped but still didn’t get me to resolution. It wasn’t until I met a naturopathic doctor who helped me find the root causes of my symptoms that I finally started to heal.

My healing included simple dietary changes (nothing fancy, just more fiber, lots of vegetables, and less junk food), finally getting deep quality sleep every night, learning to rest my overactive nervous system, and treating underlying infections that were driving the issues in the first place.

I believe health is a journey not a destination, but I am grateful to feel well nearly every day and no longer suffer from a laundry list of symptoms!

My own healing inspired me to pursue holistic medicine, and now I work as a licensed naturopathic doctor and nutritionist. I live in Austin but my work is 100% virtual.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
My path to healing was incredibly frustrating and scary at times. I felt very scared and alone when I was feeling sick and getting all normal labs coming back. Some of the pharmaceutical medications I tried also made me incredibly sick, which slowed my healing down.

There were a lot of ups and downs when I finally got started with holistic healing, where I would start to feel better and then have setbacks along the way. It took faith to trust the process to keep going even when I was in an ebb on my healing path.

What has helped me the most is having a solid team of practitioners for support and consistent daily health practices.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I work as a naturopathic doctor and nutritionist, and my practice is 100% virtual. I specialize in anxiety, insomnia, ADHD, and related disorders like IBS, headaches, and PMS/period issues. I also have quite a few clients with blood sugar issues, and I work with them to reverse insulin resistance and diabetes.

What sets me apart from other practitioners is the ability to see the body as a whole, not just separate sets of symptoms. I’ve been there myself, so I have an incredible amount of compassion for healing and how hard it can feel when you’re looking for answers!

Health coaching with me includes nutrition and dietary recommendations, exercise, supplements, herbs, and other lifestyle health practices. I go deep with my clients and coach people through the emotions and challenges in the process of changing your lifestyle, ultimately supporting them in connecting more deeply with themselves and having the life they want to live.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I bring a pure sense of hope and possibility to every client that I work with and hold the belief that each person can live their healthiest life.
