Today we’d like to introduce you to Lori Whidden.
Hi Lori, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a native Texan with a childhood deeply rooted in the sense of home. My father was in construction and I grew up understanding the importance of quality workmanship, a job well done, and real estate investment. Austin was an easy landing for me, drawn by the music scene and laid-back spirit. I made the city my home in 1999, bought my first home in 2011, and began a career in real estate in 2015.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Every transaction in this field brings unique challenges. Learning to navigate each new situation and problem-solve for my clients is incredibly rewarding. Buying a new home can be overwhelming and downright scary, so it means the world to me when someone lets me bring my expertise to the table and guide them along the way.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
For me, real estate is not a business transaction but the opportunity to act as a trusted advisor and build a long-term relationship that’s continued far into the future. In fact, some of my favorite work with my clients comes after they buy the house: referring vendors, coming up with improvement plans, and sending little reminders for yearly home maintenance that will increase the longevity of their purchase. Thankfully, I get to do just that with a loyal following of repeat clients and referrals.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
While some Austin residents may feel nostalgic for the “old Austin” as they begrudgingly navigate IH35 bumper-to-bumper, I believe that change is good and holds promise. The city will continue to thrive, but as more and more people move to Austin, we’ll likely see migration from the urban core to more rural areas. There’s so much great potential—I’m excited to get to be a part of it.
