Meet Luxy Banner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Luxy Banner.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been performing and storytelling in one way or another since I was very little. I started dancing when I was around two and fell in love with performing and being on stage. That transformed into a love for acting and music which led me to lots of work in musical theater when I was younger and on into college. In high school and college, I also fell in love with film- I’ve always loved that as another medium of storytelling and once I started to be on sets, I started to fall in love with even the technical aspects of film. After studying acting in school here in Austin at St. Edward’s University, I started becoming more involved in the theater and film communities here in town and I’ve found such fulfillment in participating in several short & feature films and theater productions.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s always ups and downs! One thing I have to face really harshly and head on is rejection- it’s a part of the job. I’ve learned to brush it off and understand that what’s for me will come to me and learn lessons along the way, but it’s always a bummer.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m probably the most proud of the devised original work I’ve made with my friend & collaborator Daniel Sullivan that we make under the name Die Hunger. It’s one of the few artistic pieces that is totally mine and not controlled by anyone else- it’s very guerilla theater & grassroots and just from our wacky brains. Other than that I think I’ve really come a long way in my professional film work- I worked on a feature recently that was a really huge growing experience for me when it came to both being diligent in my work and advocating for myself & my opinions. That took a lot of courage.

What makes you happy?
Feeling proud of what I do, collaborating and really feeling locked into my craft makes me feel insanely happy- but outside of my work I also feel a lot of joy in the simple things. Having time with my friends, my partner, my family- having that work/life balance is something I’ve been really working on lately that is really important to my happiness. I wouldn’t be where I am without the support of the people around me, and I don’t ever want to take that for granted.
