Today we’d like to introduce you to Maegan Langley.
Hi Maegan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am the Founder of Moodanas. We sell reversible, slip over the collar, customizable pet bandanas. This idea came to be after a long journey of research and finding the product I believed in and knew would make an impact.
When I was a little girl, my grandmother fostered more dogs than I could count. This was a key part of my upbringing. When I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, I always said I wanted to start my own rescue organization. As I got older, I took business classes in school and realized I wanted to create a pet product. I researched at a young age and came up with several product ideas that sent me back to the drawing board time and time again.
When I turned 23, I was determined to create a small business by my 24th birthday. I’m the type of person when I have a goal, I can’t stop until I see it where I want it to be. There were so many nights I stayed up thinking of business name ideas and thinking of the product, as I had a list of options, but none were striking me as the answer. In my research, I found that a pet bandana would be a fun product that I would love to make for even my own pets! I started to practice sewing and put everything I had into this idea. Pieces started to fall into place from there. I knew this is what I was supposed to be doing.
Our business name came to be because I have a very special kitty at home named “Moo”. Once I realized I wanted to make pet bandanas, it was evident our name would become “Moodanas” and our slogan would be “A pet bandana for every mood”. It fell into place. The pets who model for us are now called the “Moodels”. Our logo came from our beloved family dog who had recently passed away at the start up of our small business.
There is a saturated market of pet bandanas. I knew our product had to stand out. I wanted there to be an experience behind the product. I liked the idea of creating a double-sided pet bandana because our customers could create their pet’s wardrobe while saving space and paying the cost of one bandana for two prints. This opened a new door for our product. We realized very quickly that customization would take our product to the next level. We started offering customization online and at our live in person dog shows, we offered customization on the spot. Our customers love this feature and it really provides that experience that they get to customize their pet’s bandana.
We have been in business just over a year, and what a year it has been! We have learned so much, worked out so many kinks, and believe in ourselves and our product like never before. 2022 will be even bigger for Moodanas as we have new goals to reach. We plan to give a portion of our profits to Austin Pets Alive by the end of 2022. We also give a free Moodana to any animals that get adopted at our live shows. Being an entrepreneur is a learning experience. The first step is to simply start. It is important to set goals and deadlines for your business. From there, you will see the success return by the amount of work you put in. I am so thankful for our small business, the memories we’ve made, and the ones who support our brand. I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The many versions of our pet bandana were a challenge and the continuing of trial and error until it was acceptable in my eyes.

I do have a full-time job that assists entrepreneurs along with balancing school and Moodanas.

Animals make me happy! They always have. The kindness and light they can bring into your life is amazing. They deserve so much for the love they willingly give.
