Today we’d like to introduce you to Manreet Singh.
Hi Manreet , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
When I got my first job after undergrad, I was living at home with my parents—which, honestly, wasn’t the most fun. So I was always out exploring and eating at new spots (mostly to avoid being home), and I’d post pictures of what I was eating on my Instagram stories. Every time I posted a food pic, I’d get tons of replies from friends asking where the restaurant was or what I ordered. That’s what inspired me to create my food Instagram—so I could easily keep track of everything and share it with anyone who asked.
What makes my account a little different is that everything I post is vegetarian! I’ve been a lifelong vegetarian, but that’s never stopped me from finding amazing eats wherever I go. I only post dishes I genuinely enjoyed. I think a lot of people would be surprised by how many incredible vegetarian options are out there. For example, even some steakhouses offer vegan steaks!
You know those restaurants you walk past all the time but never think to try? Those are my favorite kinds of spots to check out, explore, and share. I also know how hard it can be for people with dietary restrictions to find good places to eat, so I hope veggiiyum can take a bit of that stress off their plate—literally.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think my account has definitely evolved over time. When COVID hit, most of my posts were of food I got delivered. After things opened up, I was finally able to show off the vibe and aesthetic of the restaurants I was visiting. I started focusing more on capturing the full experience and getting the perfect shots to represent what it was like to actually eat there.
Then Instagram introduced Reels, which changed the game. Now I get to be even more creative and really bring people into the experience—not just the food, but the atmosphere, the energy, and the little details that make each spot special.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I run a food Instagram account called veggiiyum where I highlight delicious vegetarian food from all kinds of restaurants—everything from hole-in-the-wall spots to trendy places you see all over social media. What started as me casually posting food pics to avoid being at home has grown into a real passion project that I’m super proud of.
What sets my account apart is that everything I post is 100% vegetarian. I’ve been a lifelong vegetarian, and I love showing that you don’t have to miss out on great food just because of your diet. I never post anything I wouldn’t recommend to a friend—I genuinely care about sharing food that tastes good and places that are worth visiting.
What I’m most proud of is when someone tells me they found a new favorite spot through my page, or that it helped make dining out less stressful for them because of their dietary restrictions. That’s the best part of it all—connecting with people through food.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck has definitely played a role in both my life and my account—mostly in the form of good timing. I started posting food content around the time when people were really starting to look to Instagram for restaurant recommendations, and that helped me grow an audience pretty naturally.
Another bit of luck is just being surrounded by friends who are super supportive. A lot of them were the reason I even started this account in the first place—they kept asking for recommendations and encouraging me to post more seriously. That kind of support makes a big difference, especially when you’re starting something new.
At the same time, I also believe that consistency and authenticity matter just as much as luck. I’ve put a lot of love and effort into my account, and I hope that’s what people see if they take a look at it.
