Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Blanchard
Hi Megan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Imagine a wild teenager with a penchant for sneaking out of the house, a heart full of dreams, and a mind swirling with music. That’s where my journey began. I was 13, sneaking off to raves, and experiencing the world through the kaleidoscopic lens of acid tabs. My home life was a storm, and I found my solace in music and film. Fast forward through a whirlwind of bad girl boarding schools, college shenanigans, and a rollercoaster ride through Hollywood, I was constantly filled with stories to tell and melodies to share. In LA I worked in film and television for Jerry Bruckheimer Films and Warner Bros. TV for over a decade. I played music solo and with my band all over the city, and I traveled the country directing music videos and live shoots for indie rock bands like the Velvet Starlings.
I found my voice in the chaos, my soul in the music, and my strength in my sobriety. I packed up my car, left LA with no plan, and found myself on a cross-country adventure high on edibles and hope. Today, I’m settled in Austin, living a life of creativity, sobriety, and pure passion. I’ve combined my film skills with my love for singing and songwriting to create a unique blend of visual and auditory art. My latest release, “Only With You,” is streaming on all platforms, along with numerous, short films, and music video albums!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth roads? Ha! I’ve had more bumps and potholes than a backcountry trail. My parents once told me we were going on vacation, but surprise! They dropped me off at a boarding school instead. Talk about a plot twist!
There were times I felt like a character in a movie – like when I lived on a Native American reservation for a few weeks, immersing myself in the culture and finding inspiration for my music. Or the time I got baptized in a river, feeling like a modern-day adventurer on a spiritual quest. I ran away from home more times than I can count, each escapade adding a new chapter to my story.
Despite the chaos, I always had my music and film to anchor me. My Hollywood days were filled with drama, but they taught me resilience and the importance of staying true to myself. Through it all, I’ve learned to embrace the wild ride, turning every challenge into a story and every setback into a song. Life may not have been smooth, but it’s been one heck of an adventure, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a storyteller at heart, blending my love for music and film into create immersive experiences. As a singer-songwriter, my sound is a unique blend of shoegaze, soulful grunge, and a sprinkle of ethereal magic. I pour my heart and soul into every note, every lyric, crafting songs that are both personal and universal.
My film background allows me to bring a cinematic quality to my music videos, creating visual stories that enhance the auditory experience. “Only With You,” my latest project, is a testament to this fusion of mediums. What sets me apart? It’s the raw honesty in my music, the whimsical tales I weave, and the adventurous spirit that drives me to push creative boundaries. I’m most proud of my resilience, my ability to transform pain into art, and my unwavering commitment to my craft.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Oh, where do I start? My journey has been blessed with incredible people who’ve lifted me up when I needed it most. First, there’s my amazing community in MA, who’ve been my rock, my cheerleaders, and my guiding stars. Their support has been invaluable in my journey to sobriety and creativity.
There’s my parents who let me have free reign to indulge in my artistic nature in every way, from experimenting with food, sewing, writing, building forts, singing and dancing.
Special shoutout to the friend I serendipitously met in Austin, who offered me a place to stay when I had nowhere else to go. That kind gesture allowed me to find my footing and continue my creative journey. And of course, my current partner, who genuinely cares about me and supports my dreams.
