Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathan “Sloke One” Nordstrom
Hi Nathan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started drawing at a very young age. I was always drawn to art; it ran in my family. In my teenage years I began to paint graffiti art. I started out on the streets of Austin Texas then later transitioned into a full-time career in art.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
My journey as an artist has been filled with many ups and downs. It’s definitely been a long road. Practicing an art form that was not accepted and, on the streets, came with consequences. I continued to paint through the hard times because I loved Graffiti. I knew in my heart that I wouldn’t stop. I had to find a way to make it work and back then the options were pretty slim. Back then graffiti art was not accepted by the general public. Making the transition from the streets to the professional world was difficult at first because the streets is all that I knew. Through persistence and hard work it slowly started to pay off.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My medium of choice is this spray can. I do use brush sometimes but I love painting with spray paint. I paint graffiti, murals, canvases, and any other surface that paint can adhere to. (cars, shoes, expensive handbags). I am known for my colorful graffiti pieces and murals. I love to travel the world and paint. If I had to say I was proud of anything it would be that after 31 years in this game I’m still painting and growing as an artist. Persistence and longevity are key. Never give up on your dream.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The qualities I feel that are important to success are skill, humility, good business sense, learning from your mistakes, dedication, hard work, and never giving up.
