Today we’d like to introduce you to Nimsi Rebeca Ledezma.
Nimsi Rebeca, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have always loved creating content. I started a youtube channel when I was 11-12Yrs old.. Unfortunately, over the years, the videos “embarrassed” me or “made me cringe” which led me to delete them. I still have the youtube channel but it has strictly changed to only dance choreography videos. (Nimsi L Choreography) Which, fun fact, I have been doing it for almost 5 consecutive years.
Fast forward 12 years, I made another youtube.. I have about 2 videos there (Nimsi Rebeca) but my “main” platform for content creating has to be TikTok. I find it easier for others to “find” me/spread my content thanks to the #FYP
Sadly, I am not “big” or “known” enough to get paid for my videos but that is ok. I do it because it’s fun! However, when I do need extra cash, I go ahead and book appointments. I am a nail tech that works from home. Aside from that, I also do lip blushing on the side.
With that being said, everything I do now, from content creating to being a small business owner to also being a wife and mom has to be because I did not go to college. Do not get me wrong, I do have my associates in Liberal Arts from Austin Community College (I received it along with my high school diploma) however, I found it challenging to go back to school after my 8 month break after graduating in 2020 due to my immigration status. That was actually when I turned my focus to doing nails, dance choreographies, content creating, and working which led me to meet my now husband and father of my only son.
Long story short, I love to tell my “young adulthood” story. Many parents want their kids to go to college, and although an education is very important, nobody needs school to be successful in life. I am a successful 23 year old young lady and I would not trade my life for anything in the world. Moreover, if I had the chance to do it all over again, I would do it the same way because my life is fullfilled. I always knew I wanted to be a be mother and wife on top of being my own boss.
Yes, everyone is different and I’m not here to tell you to “get married and settle down”. I’m here to tell you to follow your heart and dreams. Get what you want out of life wether it is an education, traveling, money, family, whatever it is, do it and if there is an obstacle DO NOT GIVE UP. Just turn your focus on the next thing. Everything happens for a reason. If you just broke up with your lover, if you did not get that promotion, whatever happens, HAPPENS FOR A REASON.
If it would not had been a challenge for me to go back to school after my break, I certainly would not have my husband, son, small business with me.. possibly not even my content (videos) because I would have been busy with something else.. In other words, I would not be doing this interview.. who knows, possibly missing an opportunity to inspire someone:)
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not a smooth road at all. I always struggled with body image/insecurities/depression. If it wasn’t one thing, it was another. Not to sound religious or anything but I even parted myself from everything spiritual.
It go to the point where I didn’t care if I woke up the next day. I thank God everyday for myself, my family and the family I come from.
What’s crazy is that my TikTok “blew up” when I made videos even though I was going through a negative phase. I clearly remember getting sad and making tiktoks to take my mind off what I was feeling/going through during that time.
Everyone talks about how content creating is one of the “easiest” jobs but not everything you see on social media is real. You never know what someone is truly going through or feeling just by watching a couple minute videos about how they are showing you a new recipe or a mini vlog.
With that being said, along with my personal challeneges, also life was happening. When I started to practice nails, and content creating, I was dating someone prior before I met my husband, it was a toxic relationship that makes me wonder why I stayed longer than what I should have.
Not going to college was mentally draining as well because many people I knew were going to school except for me, thinking about how I was going to make it in life was exhausting because I saw myself as a nobody.
Many other personal things came in place which made me develop insecurities, depression, eating disoreders that led to me using illegal substances and no, I am not talking about weed.
It was very lonely, very sad, I stayed in the denial stage for what seemed to be “forever”. Thinking back, I should have gone to theraphy and seek help but its ok. I was able to take control of myself and I am proudly 2.5 years drug free.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a full time Stay At Home mom but not only do I only “stay home”, I work from home. I am a nail tech and dance choreographer. I put in my own hours whenever I want, even though it is not a steady paycheck, it is still money I earn even though I stay home.
I am very proud to say that I’m a wife and mom. I am proud to have an amazing husband that does everything in his power for our tiny family. I am proud to be a young mom. I am proud that even though I dreamed of going back to school but was unable to due to a couple problems because of my immigration status, I did not give up. I learned new things and am living off those things I learned.
What sets me apart from others is the fact that I am not like everyone else. Aside from being an alien in this country and having my education doors closed in my face as I was dealing with things many young adults go through as well, I did not give up. I focused on the next thing to keep me going.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Being myself and not giving up.
That right there is literally why I am where I am today.
