Today we’d like to introduce you to Profile Hair Studios
Hi Profile Hair Studios, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Profile Hair Studios was an idea brought to light, about 1 year ago. Owners Michael Delarosa (23) , Rigo Torres (25) , Diego Ayala (26) came together as barbers in the industry, to create a new barbershop, deep in the heart of East Austin. We wanted to create a safe place for barbers to feel comfortable with there own craft/visions & to provide a go-to modern day hair studio that the Austin community can come to for the best quality hair services.
Fast forward to February 2024 & we had already hired 2 new barbers to join our team which made us a shop of 6. In addition to the recruiting, we had not marketed our shop other than Instagram. During this short period of time while open for business, we made a ton of progress & spent most of it completing our shop adding all the final touches to finally set a date for a grand opening.
March 10th 2024, was our grand opening day & all the progress we had made since the first time we got the keys, seemed to happen very quickly for us. Our turn out was a huge success as family, friends, clients & colleagues in the industry came by to show support for our shop. We had a DJ, photo booth, barber supply van, free tattoos, educational barber class, live screen printing, free beverages and hibachi plates from our friends at Bachi De Cunados, a hibachi food truck were partnered with that have an operation at the storefront of our business.
As time when on, business was booming for us & heading into the summer time, we hired an additional 2 more barbers. Officially being a team of 8 & we became a full house with no empty stations. Ultimately, completing our shop was definitely a milestone for us but still only the beginning of a vision we have. November 2023 – June 2024, we had gone from an idea of creating a new barbershop, to completing an entire barbershop with all the essentials we needed to fully operate as one team.
August 2024 we had moved forward to plan a Back-to-School event for the East Austin community. It included a similar style event as our grand opening however, we catered towards the youth by giving free haircuts, free hibachi plates & free backpacks with supplies for all the students. It was a successful event as we serviced over 50 students & opened an opportunity for us to appear on the CBS Austin news which was another huge milestone for us being open less than a year.
Fast forward to today, we are approaching 1 full year of owning Profile Hair Studios & we are very grateful & blessed for all the opportunities & progress that has pushed us to become a trending barbershop in our East Austin area. We are very thrilled to ride out our first “busy season” in the months of September-December 2024, as our newer barbers have not yet got to experience the that time in our new shop which will be a great experience for all new clients as well our reoccurring clients.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We got the keys to our shop on November 1st 2023, in which we spent 1 full month preparing our business for a soft opening in the following month of December 2023. Preparations during the month of November included renovations, landscaping, and installment of our stations/equipment. We had spent extra hours late at night & early in the morning making sure we could prepare our shop while still cutting hair at our previous location.
We also had the help of our longtime friend Avery Galvez (30) who came with us from our previous location & saw our vision when creating the shop. She played an important role at the beginning of our journey because she was technically our first barber to be hired at the studio & put in the same amount of work as us, the owners, during the early stages of the studio’s creation.
During our soft opening in the months of December 2023 – March 2024, we began to pick up traction with the bare minimum essentials we needed to operate the business. We started accepting clients right away and every month, we slowly made improvements & added more pieces to our studio to bring our vision to life even more. The challenging part for us during this time was the recruitment process of hiring barbers to join our team. It was difficult because we had bare minimum in the shop and we wanted to make sure our new barbers would see our vision. An upside to our recruiting was understanding our place in the industry as a newer barbershop in the area & seeing the potential that the shop was already creating at its early stages.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
One of the most important lessons learned is teamwork. Profile Hair Studios wouldn’t be anything without the Austin community coming together to really put our vision to life. As new business owners, having a profound relationship as a team between owners, barbers & friends is what really creates our chemistry to keep this train moving. At the beginning, it took sacrifice, discipline and perseverance to endure all that comes with being a new team and a new barbershop in our industry..
