Meet Rebecca Irey of Blue Skye Financial

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Irey.

Hi Rebecca, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I didn’t grow up planning to be in finance—I grew up watching what happens when people don’t know the rules of money. I grew up in the time of Farm Aid in the 80s, but Farm Aid didn’t work for us. We lost a the land my family had worked for the last four generations. Overnight, the life we knew disappeared. I remember the confusion, the fear, and the feeling that the adults around me had been playing a game no one had ever taught them how to win. That experience shaped me more than any class or credential ever could.

I decided early on that I would dedicate my life to making sure other families never felt that powerless. I wanted people to know not only the rules of money, but how to win with them—how to protect what they’ve worked for, how to build security, and how to create choices for the future instead of limits.

That calling became Blue Skye Financial. Today I have the privilege of working with individuals and families across the country, with a special focus on women and wealth. I’ve seen too many brilliant, capable women left out of financial conversations or made to feel like money isn’t “their language.” My mission is to change that—to translate complex strategies into clear plans, to replace fear with confidence, and to help women step fully into financial independence.

Every client I serve is a reminder of that little girl on the ranch who wished someone had explained the game. I can’t change my family’s story, but I can help others write a better one—and that is the work I’m honored to do every day.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I didn’t arrive in this profession through a textbook—I arrived through life. I built Blue Skye Financial while raising seven children, homeschooling them, and learning in real time what it means to balance dreams, responsibility, and uncertainty. Those years taught me more about budgeting, resilience, and priorities than any formal education ever could.

In 2017, everything changed. My husband became critically ill, and overnight I became the sole earner for a family with six children still at home. What had been a partnership suddenly became a test of survival. I had to navigate medical decisions, caregiving, and the full weight of providing for our future while still showing up as “Mom.” That season became my advanced degree in finance—not in theory, but in the real risks women face every day: income disruption, caregiving demands, gaps in retirement planning, and the emotional toll of carrying it all.

I learned firsthand that financial plans have to work in real life, not just on paper. They have to hold up when markets wobble, when health fails, when life doesn’t follow the script. That experience shaped the way I serve clients today—especially women who are often the shock absorbers for their families yet rarely the center of financial strategy.

My mission is to make sure no woman feels blindsided the way I once did. I want women to know the rules of money and, more importantly, how to win with them—to protect their families, build independence, and create options no matter what life brings. Blue Skye Financial was born from that commitment, and every plan we build reflects the lessons I lived: strength, preparation, and the belief that women deserve a financial future as powerful as they are.

We’ve been impressed with Blue Skye Financial, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Out of those years of uncertainty and rebuilding, Blue Skye Financial was born. The name came from a simple idea: after the hardest storms, there is always a stretch of blue sky again. To me, Blue Skye represents hope after hardship, clarity after confusion, and the belief that a better financial future is possible no matter where someone is starting.

I wanted to build a firm that felt different from the cold, one-size-fits-all financial world I had encountered. A place where people were seen, not sorted into algorithms. Today Blue Skye Financial is big enough to handle all your needs—retirement planning, tax strategy, protection, legacy design—yet small enough to know your name, your children’s names, and the dreams that keep you up at night.

Every client who walks through our doors brings a unique story. Some are business owners trying to balance growth with security. Some are women rebuilding after divorce or loss. Some are couples who worked hard their whole lives and just want to know they’ll be okay. We don’t believe in prepackaged answers. We listen first, then design solutions that fit your life instead of forcing your life to fit a product.

My journey taught me that money is never just about money—it’s about dignity, choices, and the people we love. Blue Skye Financial exists to give families the tools I once had to learn the hard way: knowing the rules, understanding the risks, and having a plan that can weather whatever comes. My team and I are honored to walk that road with you, to celebrate the blue skies ahead, and to help you build a future that finally feels secure, steady, and your own.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned—both in life and in this work—is that there is always a path forward. No matter how tangled a situation looks, no matter how many wrong turns someone feels they’ve taken, there is always a way to get from where you are to where you want to go.

What I also know is that no two paths are the same. Every family carries a unique story—different dreams, different fears, different responsibilities. That’s why I don’t believe in cookie-cutter financial planning or the tired industry phrases like “this is what we’ve always done” or “this is what we do with an account your size.” Your life can’t be reduced to a formula, and your future shouldn’t be built from someone else’s template.

Your financial journey is unique, and it deserves specialized attention. It deserves a plan designed around your values, your timeline, your risks, and the people you love. Real planning begins with listening, understanding, and honoring where you’ve been so we can build wisely toward where you’re going.

At Blue Skye Financial, that belief guides everything we do. We help clients see the possibilities ahead, craft strategies that fit their real lives, and move forward with confidence—because there is always a way, and you don’t have to find it alone.
