Today we’d like to introduce you to Roger Maximo.
Hi Roger, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was always an artist, I was born in San Antonio and later graduated from Texas State University with a bachelor’s degree in art and communication. I wanted to begin painting larger-scale work. When I moved to Austin in 2016, I painted my first mural in Austin, located on 4th and Lavaca at a restaurant called “Chiapas” and begin to paint more and more around Austin, TX.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It hasn’t always been smooth, moving to Austin, I had to network and put myself out there it was scary and discouraging at times. But when I got the opportunity to display my talents around town my work and name became more known in the Austin art scene and nightlife scene due to painting bars and restaurants around town. So I’m thrilled to get the opportunity from bars such as Parlay, Play and other local spots in Austin to be able to showcase my murals.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m most known for my murals in Austin and San Antonio, TX. I specialize in portraits and realism but love to collaborate with my clients to bring their ideas to life. My murals tend to stand out due to my colorful palette and use of color choice. I use mostly spray paint but will often incorporate other paint mediums if necessary. I’m most proud of the work I’ve done around Austin. I feel I’ve received such positive feedback from the community. I feel accomplished in a sense I’m making Austin beautiful through My murals. What sets me apart from other artists is my diversity in mediums. I’ve had to learn video and sound to promote my videos, I’ve learned how to do tattoos. I paint canvas’s, I have worked in digital art. I’m constantly incorporating technology to make my art great quality.
I enjoy Austin looking for new avenues to display my art and collaborate with local businesses and entrepreneurs.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My parent divorced at a young age and my mother passed away when I was 12 so I have to say going to California with my parents as a child would be my favorite childhood memory.
