Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Horseman.
Samantha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story began when I was younger, I had always loved the beauty industry. After spending some time servicing lash extensions to the beautiful women of ATX, I remember watching my mother dip her hands into creating fun t-shirts, mugs, and just memorable gifts for family members, that I remember begging her to make me cute t-shirts. Over the course of 5 years, I fell into a domestic violence marriage and was not allowed to work. I was a stay-at-home mom of 5 beautiful babies and knew I wanted more for my kids and myself. My mother had recommended that I find a hobby that I would love, and immediately thought of creating t-shirts and glassware. It was my escape from a happy home. Shortly after surviving my situation, I decided to take my hobby seriously and open up a small business that catered to women that loved the beauty industry as much as I did. As a former lash artist, I remember trying to find cute business merch that expressed what I did. I realized there was a short supply for cosmetologists & estheticians, and that’s when I knew I found my niche!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Because I absolutely love creating merch, I would love to say it has been easy, but I would definitely say I’ve struggled more than it is a smooth road. I am fairly new to my business, so learning how to market my business, set up a website, and basically learning with zero knowledge has been tough.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The Beauty Shack Apparel is a small apparel store with accessories that launched in 2022. I specialize in creating t-shirts, glassware, and accessories for beauty-related industries such as lash artists, hair stylists, estheticians, and nail technicians. Whether it be a purchase for themselves or for retail in their shops, we offer wholesale and custom orders. I am so proud of my brand knowing that each item is carefully handmade for your business!
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Without hesitation, my mother, Melisa Monk, would be my biggest supporter behind my business. Falling into such a serious situation, mentally and physically I never thought I’d have the courage to leave and start my business. I remember crying to my mother every day for 5 years about how I just wanted more for my kids and myself. I remember wanting to give up because I was told I’d never become successful and my ideas were, “dumb.” I remember always putting myself down and being scared to try anything different.
Every day, for 5 years, my mother fought back my negative thinking with love, kind words, inspiring videos, and financial help to encourage me to ignore the voices around me and believe in myself. Believe that God wouldn’t fail me and to have faith. Without empowerment, I truly wouldn’t be where I am today.
