Meet Sean Wallace

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean Wallace.

Hi Sean, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am a professional photographer, and I am in a wheelchair. I have Becker Muscular Dystrophy. I got into photography during covid, and since then it has become one of my favorite art forms. It’s been a great creative outlet for me. Being in a wheelchair poses some challenges, especially for landscape photography. There are certain places I can’t reach, but it forces me to think creatively within my means. I recently moved from north Austin out to La Grange, TX to live a simpler life away from the big city. I live on a small two-acre farm. I am hoping that if my photography career really kicks off, I can leave my boring retail job and do photography full-time. Whatever happens, I have enjoyed the creative journey so far and I am excited for the future. Also, if anyone needs any portrait work hit me up. : )

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Being in a wheelchair can be limiting in what shots I can physically get. I won’t be scaling any mountains anytime soon. Also, like everyone else I was going through the whole covid thing when I started photography. Luckily during all that I could still go to parks and photography allowed me time to hang out outside in nature.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am into all kinds of photography. I started with landscapes and Astrophotography a few years ago. Since then, I also do portrait work and product photography. I am freelancing right now with the hopes of making a full career out of it. I am going to sell some custom-framed landscape prints starting next year. There are a few images I have taken that I am really proud of. One of which is an image of fireworks from the Austin 360 bridge during the fourth of July. What I think sets me apart is my eye for creative detail in my photos. I also love to combine astrophotography with my portrait work when I can.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My parents and my grandma are all very supportive of me. Also, my sister inspired me to get into photography. She has been a professional photographer for a long time now.
