Meet Selûna The Band of West Campus

Today we’d like to introduce you to Selûna The Band.

Hi Selûna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We started as four high school friends just jamming and trying to play music together. At first, we were all pretty bad at our instruments and it took us a long time to get good enough to play for others. We didn’t have our first show until about a year after we started playing. It paid off though, because in that time we learned all about how to collaborate and learn from each other in an effective and fulfilling way. Five years later, we’re still doing the same thing, just in a much bigger city and with much bigger goals. We’re in college now, but the dedication, chemistry, and heart that took its roots when we were younger continues to persist.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s not been a completely smooth road. For one, our first year in college we spent separated. There was no band for a long period, but in the summer we got back together and realized we couldn’t let what we had go to waste. So, our drummer and singer transferred to Texas State and we started gigging around West Campus and San Marcos. We’ve also had our fair share of disagreements, arguments, and periods of demotivation, but our commitment to our music has kept us together through all of that.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What sets Selûna apart from other bands is our connection as friends rather than just musicians. We’ve been playing together as a band for around five years now, and we’ve gone from high school classmates to college musicians in a new city, all together. We were friends before we started playing music together, and I think that translates well to the way we make music and collaborate. There have been periods of downtime, sure, but we all kept coming back to the music because it’s something we genuinely care about. We are excited to be releasing our debut EP this summer, and this record definitely showcases the trust, chemistry, and shared vision we’ve built over the years. It’s mostly an indie rock album, but with some heavy twists in the midst. Along the way, we’ve learned that creating art is easy when you have three other people who share the same passion and want to make the same impact that you do. We want the world to know our music deserves a listen because it reflects our genuine connection and commitment to what we create.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to us is the music. Not marketing, not branding, not even Instagram reels, but the music. We strive to be the best we can be and we don’t cut corners in the songwriting or studio process. The songs we are about to release have taken time to come to fruition, but that’s for good reason. While in today’s landscape it’s necessary to be ever present on social media, that’s not our focus for us, it’s just a means to get people listening to us and hopefully, connecting with us. If our music can speak to even just a few people, we’ll be happy with what we’ve accomplished.
