Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharde’ Williams.
Hi Sharde’, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Growing up it was never a dream of mine to become a model. I never saw girls or women look like me in the media. It wasn’t until I became serious about my weight loss journey back in 2019. I used to weigh an unhealthy 286lbs along with the weight of depression, raising two children and trying to maintain a healthy marriage. As I started to work on myself from the inside out, I fell in love with being in front of the camera! At this time, I was living in Dallas, TX. Then later we moved to Austin, TX where I would eventually get signed with my first talent agency! I had no idea I would get booked with a reputable brand a month after signing! It was an exciting time for me! And, little did I know that once I got on set – modeling was much bigger than me. The message was much BIGGER than little ole me!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road for me, but a very rewarding one to say the least. A few struggles that I have dealt with as a plus-sized model has been me tearing down the layers of what it truly means to love my body; and giving my body the grace she deserves. There are so many amazing things my body can do. I have brought two beautiful children in this world, I am an athlete, I love pushing my body in the gym. There was a time I thought because I lost enough weight then I should be 100% ready for any type of photoshoot that came my way. (Jokes were on me) That’s because it’s all mental. Change your mind, change your life! When I realized that even on the days where I didn’t feel my most prettiest or smallest, I still had to show up on set and do what I was hired to do. Then one day it just clicked for me. The whole point is to not to be as small as you can be, but to come across relatable to consumers. People want to know and believe that “if she can rock that, then so can I”. And ever since then, I have made it less about my weight/body, and more about being truly confident in who I am, on any day at any angle! We are more alike than we are different. And, I wish I would have saw more young girls & women look like me growing up. So this is my way of giving back and being that woman a little girl can look up and see on the billboards and see themselves.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
A few months ago, I cut all of my hair off, so I am currently building my portfolio with an up to date look of me. Right now, I work with a lot of local brands here in the Austin area. I would love to continue building up my portfolio so I can eventually take my talents to LA. A lot of the work I do, aligns with who I am in real life and I feel like that gets lost in the digital world. I like to be apart of brands who are authentic in their approach and want to see bold, black women win!
