Meet Shaun Flinn of Harker Heights, TX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaun Flinn.

Hi Shaun, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been an artist for as long a s I can remember. Tried college but it wasn’t a great fit. I got started tattooing in Pennsylvania, in 2007 at a local shop. Like a lot of artists, i bounced around shops for a few years until I landed in a well known shop in Wilkes-barre, PA. During the 7ish years I spent at this shop I learned a lot and was able to travel to several different conventions around the country. I met some great artists and made some good friends. I moved to Texas in 2018 to get a new start and work at my friends shop Black Heart Tattoo Collective. I’ve been here for almost 7 years and I love it. I have the absolute pleasure of doing really cool tattoos on the awesome people of Texas!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My tattoo “journey” has definitely had it’s ups and downs. I didn’t have the most conventional apprenticeship so I ended up having to learn a lot on my own. It took a long time, a lot of work and plenty of sleepless nights to get to the skill level I am at and I am proud of where I am now. I’ve also worked at some sketchy shops along the way!
Also, Tattooing as a career is a big commitment. It took me a while to really accept and come to grips with this. Constant drawing, running your own business, creating the marketing and tattooing for many hours during the day is more than a full time job. I am obsessed with it all though. I find fun in every part of it more and more and I love learning new things whenever I can.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a professional tattoo artist of 18 years. I specialize in Anime, new school, illustrative and neotraditional tattoo styles. My work stands out because of my bold color use, my background in art and my personal art style.

Any big plans?
I’ve been focusing on making content for my business lately. The way people interact with tattoo shops has changed in the last few years. Most people shop online these days, i know i do! My plan is to just be consistent with authentic content and give as much as I can to my audience/clients.

Pricing:

  • I charge by the hour for large, multiple session projects.
  • I do flat rates or price ranges for single sessions projects.
  • I can also work with someones specific budget.
