Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We created the Mighty Texas Dog Walk & Expo as a fundraiser for Service Dogs, Inc.
The Dog Walk has become the #1 Dog Event in Austin. It attracts thousands of people walking their dogs, offers tons of dog-centric freebies and has snatched 12 World Records to date!
This year, we are vying for World’s Largest Pajama Party With Dogs.
At Service Dogs, Inc., we adopt shelter dogs and transform them into Service Dogs for wounded veterans and other Texans living with disabilities. The Dog Walk helps us provide the Service Dogs and lifetime follow up free of charge.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The Mighty Texas Dog Walk challenges include change of venues, weather and one year, a broken helicopter at our current venue of Camp Mabry that delayed set up for 8 hours.
We always carry on with enthusiasm inspired by the smiles on everyone’s faces as they enjoy Disneyland for Dogs with their best friends. Giving thousands of dogs the best day of their lives always motivates us no matter what challenges occur.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We are very proud of making the dog walk an event that engages families on multiple levels. We have amazing free games dogs can play like Sniffari where they play detective with their nose and agility, which is an obstacle course designed for dogs.
We’ve added a costume contest that Austin has embraced. We also have an interactive installation where guests can write their dog’s names and share something special about them.
Our guests love the Expo part of the dog where they can get thousands of free samples of premier dog food and treats, plus training and veterinary advice.
And our World Records, including Biggest Cake For Dogs, Most Dogs Walked, Biggest Fur Ball and more provide Austin with global bragging rights!
What’s next?
We always want more and more people and dogs to discover and enjoy the Mighty Texas Dog Walk & Expo.
I’d like it to be a destination event like the hot air balloon festival in Arizona. I’d love to get Austin’s hospitality industry involved so we can show people from all over the country the hospitality and excitement of the #1 Dog City in America.
