Meet Steven Woods

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Woods.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Well, I got my start at the young age of 15 years old and I was part of one of the best dance groups in Killeen, Texas and we went by the name of Flexx Entertainment group and we were managed by a Hip Hop Legend and the first female rapper of the Hip Culture MC ShaRock (she is has always been another mother to me throughout my entire life). This dance group really gave me purpose growing up because I stay out of trouble for the most part of my teenage age years. We put on two sold-out talent shows in Killeen and we were able to showcase the local talent in our community and some of went on to become some very popular house whole names in the entertainment world. The art of dance has always been way to escape many struggles that I have had to overcome throughout life. I knew I was something serious because I really always left it on the floor and it gave a lot of opportunities to grow as a dancer. I did go out to dance with the WNBA San Antonio Silverstars on the very first co-ed dance/cheer squad and I was co-captain for two seasons. Work with this team, I was taught to step outside of myself and not be afraid to known a cheerleader/dancer as well. I speak of these to moments in myself because they really shaped who I am today as dancer as well as how I am able to give back in so many ways in the communities that I have been raised in and been a part of as an adult.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Throughout my life, the road has not been an easy one for because I have had to really totally completely done the work to understand who I AM and accept all parts of me. Because of self-doubt and some insecurities, I placed myself in box of fear which caused me not to take a lot of great opportunities in my life. I always placed out other people’s talents before my own because I have a big heart (lol) but I never really gained the self-confidence and self-love until here recently. When I say do the work, I had understand why I always stayed in the shadow and that was because I left other people thoughts overshadow what I truly seen the mirror when it came to things that I was great at and what talents I was blessed to have and do them with purpose and do it because the only approval that matters is my own.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Outside of my 20 years in technical sales and working various company. I am a freelance 40 year old dancer and choreographer that takes pride and time working my craft of dancing and that is anywhere from dancing an associates charity events to showcasing my work on my social media platform.

I am very active in giving back to those in needs in my community as well as very serious activist when it comes to social-injustice and equality for us all especially the black culture. One thing have to know about is I am always growing and staying up with the latest but I have a hard time following trends because I am my own trend and it’s exciting to watch and I love to connect with many others that share the same mindset.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?

Always remember, those little lessons mama used to tell you because will understand throughout your life what she meant. Love You, Ms. Woods (My Mama).
