Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Harrison
Hi Taylor, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started Knightcap Chess Club in late 2023 to make chess social, stylish, and inviting—something that fits the city’s culture rather than sitting quietly in the corner. Our first Toronto events showed us people were hungry for this blend of community and strategy, so we expanded to unique venues, then new cities like Austin and Miami, each adding its own flair. Now, Knightcap is more than just events—we’re exploring merchandise, content creation, and beyond. It’s been a journey of reimagining chess and constantly evolving.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been mostly smooth, but that doesn’t mean it’s been easy. We’ve put in countless hours, juggling late-night events, coordinating logistics, and managing growth—all while trying to keep the experience fresh and exciting. The work has been intense, but we’ve been lucky enough to see positive responses and steady progress, which makes it all feel worthwhile.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I started in hospitality at Giulietta in Toronto, growing my skills in creating memorable experiences. Now, at Knightcap, I bring that same skillset to chess, hosting events in unique venues—rooftops, galleries, bars—where anyone can connect over the game.
