Hi Tisha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my company in October of 2005 – with a publication called “That’s Natural” that served to educate consumers about local farmers and producers – this eventually culminated in the store Life Force Market in Basalt, Colorado. This first store, serving the Aspen & Snowmass (Colorado) market, propelled our wellness and CBD products worldwide. Our new store in Lakeway brings all of our unique and popular products to this beautiful Texas community. We stand for Food and Medicine Freedom – by being sovereign and conscious! You’ll find alternative life-changing solutions and new paths to wellness in our space at Lakeway Plaza.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
After COVID, we weren’t sure if people would be able to handle smelling, touching, tasting, and interacting in a retail environment anymore. We were happy to see that humanity has been resilient and has come back to interact again in society! The most difficult thing is bureaucracy and red tape in government – it is important that our representatives stay aware and accessible to the hurdles of small businesses trying to stay operational during these economic times.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
It is a huge risk to start a business because you have no idea if people will genuinely want what you have to offer, and you are putting forth huge amounts of time, energy and capital to ‘attempt’ to see if they will! Starting my business was very difficult because I had numerous people (including people on the Small Business Advisory Panel of SCORE) telling me NOT to start my own business, that I needed to ‘work for people’ first, that starting a business right out of college was not a good idea – that I needed to work ‘under’ people for the experience.
In addition to continuously being told that I couldn’t achieve my dream, I have had to fight tooth and nail to maintain my operations throughout the years with varying economic cycles and consumer sentiment. At one point, I took the last savings that I had (I only had $8 in my checking account) and I used that savings (which was in silver coins!) to purchase my first CBD inventory – which launched my company into new heights. It was a ginormous risk. Every day, that risk continues to exist as I continue to decide to operate in today’s economic environment.
