Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Vinh Vuong .
Hi Dr. Vinh, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in Florida, where I graduated with a Bachelor’s in Biology at the University of South Florida. After graduating, I took a year off school and participated in sales that entailed relocating to another state and selling books door-to-door. Surprisingly I did very well in that experience, but after my year off, I ultimately got accepted into my top choice program, the University of Miami for Physical Therapy. Throughout my schooling, I developed a passion for helping others and one day see myself owning a practice. When I graduated from physical therapy school, I pursued a residency in orthopedics to enhance my knowledge and follow it up with a fellowship program in manual therapy. This adventure led me to Houston, where I ultimately met my wife. Since living in Texas, I have had the privilege to work with skilled and knowledgeable clinicians who have mentored me into who I am today. They have given me opportunities that have guided me toward teaching, mentoring, and providing patients top quality treatment. I have made it through my career, where I have worked as a director and faculty of an institution that teaches residents and fellows in physical therapy, and I now own my practice. I strive to advance my skills to provide every patient with the best quality treatment available without the hassle of being placed in a corporate system. My goals moving forward have been to grow my practice to help more patients correctly, continue to be a leader in the field, guide novice clinicians, and support my family in the best way I can.
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
I have always believed that good things happen to people who strive for their goals. I have always worked hard and made sacrifices along the way to be where I am at today. I struggled to get through physical therapy school because I may have only sometimes been prepared for each exam. The copious amount of hours spent knocking on doors 80 hours a week to make sales and grow as an individual, was character-building. I dealt with 8 people pulling guns on me due to the awkwardness of someone knocking on your door at obscure hours. The one quote I always told people to help push forward was: “It doesn’t matter what happens in a situation. How you respond to that situation will dictate your outcome.” When I had the 8th person pull a gun on me, I responded, “Hey! You’re the 8th person to pull a gun on me; high five!” As odd as that sounds, I turned that situation into a sale. Moving into my physical therapy career, I have felt very fortunate to continue growing and advancing myself further, which has led me to enjoy the journey without any regrets.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a physical therapist who has been practicing for about 7 years. After graduating, I went through a residency program to become a Board Certified Specialist in Orthopedics, followed by pursuing a fellowship program, making me a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists. My specialties revolve around treating orthopedic and sports-related injuries. I have many experiences in treating a variety of post-operative surgeries. These surgeries can range in any part of the body from the head/neck, shoulder region, elbows, hips, low back, knees, and foot. I have worked with professional athletes from the NFL, USTA, and even MLB. My passion is working with active individuals, no matter their level of expertise. Through my teaching and mentoring, I have been known to develop excellent rapport, provide high-quality treatment with all my patients, and build a good reputation in the physical therapy community. I am proud to be where I am today, where I have finally reached my goals of opening my practice and participating in a faculty role to help educate other clinicians. My charisma and advanced physical therapy skills are what separates me from others. I also have a strong drive towards becoming the best version of myself which allows me to always strive for more.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I made sales before going into Physical Therapy. There was never any desire to make sales, and the reasons for doing it were not of my own. It was a fantastic experience that has helped shape my personality and confidence towards where I am today.
