Rising Stars: Meet Aimee Bell of Downtown Waco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aimee Bell

Hi Aimee, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I originally started in the DFW metroplex doing luxury piercing. Eventually I did a tattoo apprenticeship under my mentor Francisco Sanchez in Denton, TX. I’ve always wanted to tattoo and am so glad I was able to learn to do it! I love tattoo history and culture. Ultimately I would love to have a studio of my own focused on that includes both worlds, luxury piercing and tattooing!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Tattooing is difficult inherently. There are many nuances one has to consider when taking on a project or client. Also, to get better, a lot of time needs to be set aside learning other mediums. I also feel as though social media has become difficult to manage as well. Learning to market oneself is a challenge many tattooers now face.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a proud tattoo artist and piercer. I specialize in black and grey fine line and realism tattoos. I’m proud that I have the skillset in tattooing and piercing – a lost combo now-a-days. What really sets me apart is my breadth of knowledge and resources on different styles of tattoos and being a welcoming individual overall.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
The people in my life that helped me get here would be my friends and mentor. Francisco Sanchez and Rember Orellana, my mentors that taught me how to tattoo. Kelly Graff, my previous shop manager who gave me the opportunity to grow luxury piercing at Dark Age and make it my own. My friends, Angela Ponce, Sasha Ignarski, Sarah Wainwright, Ursula Thomson, Belen Gasca, and Hailley Odie – who are all in the industry and influenced career. I’d also like to thank God, as an Orthodox Christian, I have found a profound connection with my clientele through my appreciation of this life that God has created for all of us.
